Welcome Windows 10!

Today’s a big day for Microsoft Windows fans. The new operating system is now available in 190 countries, including the Philippines. As we’ve covered before, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users in the country should be able to download the OS now. And the new Windows PCs and tablets coming out should come bearing this new OS.

Microsoft Philippines held a local launch earlier today at Hole in the Wall in Century City Mall to celebrate the release and show off some of the key features of Windows 10. We’ve covered this extensively in the past both here on the site and in the magazine so we’re just going to talk a bit about what was presented at the launch.

1. Windows gets facial recognition security feature
   Logins are getting simpler and more secure with Windows 10, Microsoft Philippines’ Mae Moreno, together with event host Bianca Valerio, showed how easy it is to log into your Windows 10 device. That is, if you’re the owner of the gadget.

2. The new Start Menu
   You’ve asked for it and it’s finally back. The Start button makes its much welcome comeback along with a revamped Start Menu, which shows you the apps and updates you need—in alphabetical order, if that’s your thing.

   




3. Microsoft Edge is here
   Internet Explorer has officially been left behind. Microsoft’s Edge browser is designed for easier web surfing/browsing, reading, and even sharing of web pages, complete with notes and doodles when needed.




4. Windows 10 on mobile is coming up
   A quick demo of Windows 10 on mobile was done during the event. It was meant to show how seamless the experience will be with Windows 10, no matter what device you use it on.

5. Microsoft gives back
   Windows 10 is part of Microsoft’s push to #UpgradgeYourWorld and the comapny hopes to give back to several non-profit organizations in the process. If you want to learn more about this initiative, you can check out this link.

   Microsoft Philippines, who’s celebrating its 20th year in the country, will be spending August 20th with partner Gawad Kalinga to help build homes and supply Windows devices for schools at a partner community.
