Capture your next adventure in the highest resolution possible with Sony’s newest Action Cams: the FDR-X1000V and HDR-AS200V. Sony, together with Ford Philippines, brought some members of the local tech media to Flowhouse Manila in Cavite last month to try out flowriding and the new Action Cams.

The FDR-X1000V is a 4K-ready (3,840 x 2,160 at 30p, 100Mbps/60Mbps), splash-proof POV camera. It features enhanced high-definition video performance, better video stabilization, as well as improved video quality and high-frame rate shooting. It’s built with ZEISS Tessar lens with an ultra-wide angle 170-degree field of view, back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor, and BIONZ X processor.

Sony boasts that the SteadyShot stabilization technology used in the FDR-X1000V is capable of suppressing high-frequency motor vibration, meaning drone shots would come out clearer and steadier and you get better quality, fast-moving action shots.

It can also record HD footage at high frame rates of 120p in Full HD and 240p in Standard HD. Audio quality won’t be an issue with wind noise reduction feature. Loop recording is also available on the FDR-X1000V. You can also live stream through USTREAM platform and take still image burst shots. This Action Cam also comes with a wider range of manual controls, giving you the ability to adjust white balance and auto exposure shifting. And you can play back your clips on compatible 4K TVs.

Now, if you don’t need the 4K model, Sony also has the HDR-AS200V. It has most of the new features of the FDR-X1000V but this model can only shoot up to Full HD. It can shoot Full 1080p HD/50Mbps video at 60p; 720p HD at 120p; and WVGA video at 240p.

These two new Action Cams will work with Sony’s new RM-LVR2 Live View Remote as well as PlayMemories Mobile app. The new remote provides added control over the FDR-X1000V and HDR-AS200V, such as start/stop recording; the ability to delete unwanted clips; and movie playback but without audio. It can also control multiple Sony Action Cams. And if you worry about damaging the unit, Sony made it waterproof for up to 3m or approximately 10ft.

For video editing, you can turn to Sony’s Action Cam Movie Creator or the official Action Cam app. Since the new POV cameras have GPS built-in, you can even create clips with GPS data overlaid on the clips.

The FDR-X1000V retails for P27,999 and comes with a free Live View Remote and 16GB microSD card, while the HDR-AS200V will retail for P20,999 and it also comes with the free RM-LVR2 and 16GB microSD card.
