LG is making two-door refrigerators seem antiquated with its first mega-capacity, four-door fridge. We caught a glimpse of the new Double Door-in-Door refs at the LG InnoFest held in Malaysia on February 4.
We dub it the obsessive compulsive’s dream with the two independent Door-in-Door compartments. You can store items in any way you want, while still being able to maximize cold air conservation. With the four doors, it promises to cut down cold air loss by up to 47 percent. Its Inverter Linear Compressor contributes to the lower energy consumption.
You can choose to just open the right door with a push of a button (convenient if you have your hands full), while the left side opens via a trigger at the bottom of the door. With High Density Insulation technology that provides a thinner yet powerful insulation and the lack of a central partition, the new ref models get even more capacity.
Meanwhile, to help keep your food fresh, these refs are equipped with Hygiene Fresh air purification system. These use multi-layer filters and a fan designed to remove bacteria, odors, and virus from the fridge.
The high-end model of the new fridge line features contour-processed, tempered glass with a black patterned finishing. It is a beauty to behold but also looks like a fingerprint magnet. We were told by an LG representative that the metal version of the new Double Door-in-Door will be coming to our shores. We weren’t, however, given a release date or price just yet.
UPDATE (Feb. 16, 2015):
LG Philippines recently announced the Door-in-Door models they’ll be bringing into the country. One is the 5-Door GR-M24FWCHL and another is the smaller 2-Door GR-D432HLAL. Both models will come with 10-year motor warranty.
