adidas looks to trash for latest shoe inspiration

adidas partnered with Parley for the Oceans to create a new kind of running shoe aimed at making a difference.

Parley is an organization that hopes to raise awareness and put a stop to pollution and trash of our oceans, which also has adidas as one of its founding members. What they came up with is a concept shoe made entirely out of plastics and deep-sea gill fishing nets. The organization tapped partner Sea Shepherd to collect the nets specifically over 110 days while they were tracking an illegal fishing ship off the coast of West Africa.

The shoe they came up with has a nice nautical color going to match the cause it champions. It is actually also the color of the green fishing nets they got. And if you want to get behind the idea, you can’t just yet. It’s still a concept and a spokeswoman from adidas can’t confirm if this particular concept shoe will be available for sale. However, adidas plans to incorporate recycled plastic into its shoes by early next year.
