A rundown of Apple’s Spring Loaded event

Apple has finally veered away from their professional and somewhat bland color scheme into something more lively with today’s releases. Sure, their iPhones have different colors, but it now extends to other products in their range.

There’s a lot to discuss so if you’re pressed for time, here’s a quick take about Apple’s updated lineup.

1. Purple iPhone

Tim Cook said it’s perfect for spring, but all I can think about is ube ice cream. The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini now comes in purple. They’ve color-matched the back panel to the aluminum frame so even though they’re slightly different shades, they’re aesthetically pleasing. There’s no moniker for it, just plain ‘purple’ but it’s more vibrant than the purple of the iPhone 11.

2. AirTags

After months of leaks, Apple finally unveiled their AirTags. It’s a small device that you can attach to your bag or keys for example, so that you can find them using the Find My app in your phone. This comes after Apple released the news that third-party manufacturers under the Made For iPhone program can now utilize their products to work with the said app. You can find more info about the AirTags here.

3. Refreshed Apple TV 4K with new Siri remote

Apple’s prime entertainment console is now powered with the A12 Bionic chip that first appeared in the iPhone XS series in 2018. It can now support high frame-rate HDR videos and Dolby Vision video up to 60fps. There’s also a new Siri remote with a five-way clickpad and touch controls for a more intuitive experience.

It can also color-correct itself by using your iPhone. Just turn it towards your screen and using the iPhone’s advanced sensors, it will determine the best setting for your TV and adjust accordingly, so you can view your shows in the best colors possible.

4. iMac M1

The transition from Intel to Apple’s M1 chip continues with the iMac. With the majority of the hardware housed in the processor itself, it allowed Apple to remove much of the components and significantly slim down their entry-level desktop.

It’s available in seven colors, and can be accompanied by a new keyboard, trackpad, or Apple mouse. You can read more about it here.

5. iPad Pro M1

Yes, you read that right. Not only is Apple transitioning away from Intel, they’ve also gone and put their new processor into the iPad Pro. It previously used an in-house iPad-dedicated processor from the A10X to the A12Z but seeing the success of the M1, it’s a no-brainer to just transfer it to a more mobile device.

Aside from the processor, another big change for the iPad Pro is that the 12.9-inch model now comes with the same XDR technology from Apple’s Pro Display. That display starts at P300,000 and now, iPad Pro users can get the same luscious graphics without needing a table. You can read more about the iPad Pro M1 here.

As with all Apple releases, they arrive locally around one-two months from the official date of availability in the US. The AirTags, purple iPhone 12, and purple iPhone 12 mini will be available in the states at the end of the month. The new Apple TV, M1 iMac and M1 iPad Pro would be out by the second half of May.
