Volvo XC90 T8 PHEV—Cleaning the air in luxury, style, and safety

Clean and safe air for all: if there’s a silver lining to gleam from this unprecedented pandemic, it’s that there has been a vast improvement in air quality due to lockdown measures which have prompted significantly less traffic in Manila and all over the world. Photos of clear and clean Manila skylines with a highly visible Sierra Madre mountain range behind it have gone viral. A report from ABS-CBN notes that “surrounded by clear skies and visible from across the sea and beneath the shadow of a mountain range, it’s Metro Manila as people have not seen it before.” This positive environmental change has not only been aesthetic however – the level of PM 2.5 in Manila has also drastically went down from 17.6 to just 3-6 ug/cubic meter, which is within the safe level according to the Climate Change Commission (CCC).

More than ever, the importance of using a zero-to-low emission vehicle is evident. The latest Volvo XC90 T8 PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) allows you to make a greater impact by continuing the trend of a lower carbon footprint. Its increased 11.6 kWh battery capacity from the 2016 model will allow the XC90 to go even further with extra miles due to its purely all-electric 28km driving range. Volvo’s ‘Pure Eco Mode’ feature allows the XC90 to drive free of emissions for your typical daily trip in “near-silent luxury.”

Efficient and powerful, the hybrid nature of the car does not sacrifice performance. The XC90 T8 Twin Engine offers a combined 400 horsepower from both its gasoline and electric powertrain. This amount of power offers drivers choice depending on their mood and setting. Comfort mode provides an easy and smooth driving experience, Dynamic mode situationally sharpens the car’s responses, and Off-Road mode assists the driver in rough conditions. Lastly, a fifth customizable Individual mode allows the driver to combine features from all of the above modes.

The updated technology in the Volvo XC90 allows for a variety of smart features that will provide peace of mind to drivers. Park Assist Pilot allows for automatic reversing into a parking space, as well as entering and exiting when parallel parking. The rear parking sensors make sure the car’s distance from obstructions are accurate and beep at increasing frequencies the closer you get to an obstruction. Lastly, the 360° Surround View Camera utilizes multiple cameras to project a virtual “bird’s eye view” of the Volvo XC90 and its immediate surroundings.

A variety of technology assistance features will provide further safety, comfort and convenience to drivers: Active Bending Lights, Automatic Braking After Collision, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Cross Traffic Alert, City Safety Collision Avoidance Technology, Lane Keeping Aid, Pilot Assist (Driver Assist System with Adaptive Cruise Control), Rear Collision Warning, and Volvo On-Call and Smartphone Integration. Run-off road Mitigation detects if a car is veering off the road unintentionally (between 64-140 kph). If the car still manages to leave the road, an energy-absorbing cushion in the front seat reduces serious impact or chance of injury in the event of a crash.

Bowers & Wilkins audio is equipped throughout the interior of the car with 19 speakers total, making sure everyone in the car hears the clarity and quality of sound. The speakers are equipped with stainless steel grilles and yellow speaker cones to give the interior a bold yet classic touch. The XC90 also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which transforms the 9-inch center dash display into a mirror of your smartphone where you can access your calls, music, and messages.

The Volvo XC90’s interior trim options include either ‘Grey Ash’ or ‘Linear Walnut,’ natural colors complimenting the sustainable luxury of the car. Responsibly made Tailored Wool Blend upholstery composed of 30% wool and 70% recycled polyester provides a comfortable and understated feel.

These adornments compliment a roomy interior that does not compromise in space – an optional third row brings the seat total to six or even seven which is ideal for families or those that carpool to work. Second-row seats can fully slide and recline, and there is an integrated booster seat available as well. Each backrest folds down flat to increase the cargo space to 85.7 cubic feet. And all of the third row seats can be folded or raised at the push of a button. Volvo brings Swedish practicality and elegance to the XC90 cabin.

On the exterior of the Volvo XC90 you’ll find advanced LED headlights with unique “Thor’s hammer” design that provide a strong and clear illumination during the day or night. These lights are also tech equipped with automatically switching lights (between dipped and full beam)

The P7,995,000 Volvo XC90 can be explored in different trims of your liking.
