Volvo T8 Twin Engine Plug-in Hybrids: Cleaner Air Inside and Out

If you want to breathe cleaner air inside and out of your car, then the recently launched Volvo T8 Twin Engine Plug-in Hybrids would be your best bet.

As the country’s first premium Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), Volvo’s hybrid range that includes the stately Volvo S90 sedan, the dynamic Volvo XC60 SUV, and its larger sibling, the Volvo XC90 SUV, can let you breathe deeply inside its luxuriously appointed cabins.

The Future is Electric

Launched through a sustainable mobility forum entitled The Future is Electric, these literal vehicles of change can be one of the solutions to helping people save Mother Earth. Organized in cooperation with Partnership for Clean Air, a multi-sector network that promotes air quality management, this forum has provided an opportunity to train the spotlight on climate issues and cars.

Aside from discussing the various environmental issues that plague the planet today, the forum also emphasized one of Volvo Cars’ global plans – the aim to generate 50 percent of global sales from fully electric cars by 2025. This goal would result in a 50 percent reduction in tailpipe carbon emissions per car between 2018 and 2025.

Clean Air Asia: For Healthier, More Livable Cities

The quest for cleaner air and the importance of air quality were also tackled by Clean Air Asia’s Transport Program Coordinator, Ms. Kathleen Dematera. In her comprehensive report, she shared the different sources of emissions and their effects on human health and the environment.

Aside from industrial emissions and ambient air pollution, traffic emissions are considered to be the leading source of urban PM2.5 Considered to be the most harmful form of air pollution because of its microscopic size, particulate matter can linger in the air and is able to penetrate into the lungs and bloodstream. This can lead to adverse health conditions such as respiratory diseases, heart diseases, and premature deaths. Particulate matter also affects the environment through smog (smoke and fog), acid rain, and ocean acidification.

Since the transport sector is responsible for at least 22 percent of the global energy-related carbon dioxide(CO2) emissions and energy consumption, it is therefore critical that steps are taken to achieve the global goal of reducing emissions to reach a 2-degree scenario.

Volvo T8 Twin Engine Plug-in Hybrids: Cleaner Air All Around

While Volvo cars have always been designed to protect people, it is also the company’s goal to protect the world around them. With Volvo’s recently recharged goals, the company is taking a step further by working on its ambition to reduce its carbon footprint by 40% per car by 2025 and be climate neutral by 2040.

Volvo has always been aware of the environmental impact their cars make. With an eye to uphold its vision of responsible luxury, Volvo aims to reduce its total operational carbon emissions by 25% per carcompared to 2018. This includes everything from manufacturing to business travel and retailer network. Volvo is already working towards climate neutrality in its manufacturing operations by 2025, and is making good progress with around 80% of its global plants powered by renewable electricity.

Volvo also intends to reduce supply chain carbon emissions– a major part of its overall value chain emissions – by 25% per car by 2025 compared to 2018. This includes emissions generated from the production of components and materials, and from the extraction of minerals and metals.

There’s a multi-pronged plan to achieve this vision including helping suppliers to increase their renewable energy use, as well as using more sustainable materials in their cars and reducing waste. This is in addition to its current goal of achieving at least 25% recyclability of all plastics used in new Volvo cars launched after 2025.Volvo has always been proud of its efforts in giving a superior in-car environment. Along with its cutting-edge innovations is the CleanZone air purification system, one of the most efficient on the market that has been further improved by adding a new carbon filter for more efficient capture of small, harmful particles and pollen in the incoming air. This ensures that the air people breathe inside a Volvo is even cleaner than the air outside the car.
