Suzuki Philippines and its over 6,100 riders rocked the World Trade Center Manila and the world, literally, by breaking the Guinness World Records title for largest road safety lesson alongside the brand’s celebration of the “continuous supremacy of the Raider R150 as the undisputed Underbone King.”
“We would like to make a socially relevant record and the Guinness World Records title for largest road safety lesson is the most fitted for Suzuki,” says Monch Bontogon, marketing manager for Motorcycle Marketing Department.
With unprecedented sales of 30,785 units in 2016, the Raider R150 topped in the Underbone 150cc category of the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA). And with 4,178 participants, it was able to secure the world record.
The day-long event was well attended by more than 96 clubs from all over the Philippines. Among the exciting activities prepared by Suzuki included a Custom Bike contest which highlighted the Raider R150 as a carburetor motorcycle perfect to be customized and modified.
Hailed as the winners were Johnie Ray Nabua for the Best Custom Bike title, Oliver Villasis for Best Concept Bike and Riders’ Choice award for the same category, and Mark Evaristo for the Best in Engine Setup. The Best Chrome went to Lovely Kailah Lademora, who was also hailed as the Media’s Choice. The Best Paint went to Joel Clarete. For the Riders’ Choice, Jerson Delos Reyes took home the title for Custom Bike and John Benedict Ibasco for the Engine Setup.
The Astig Rider, Biker Babe, and Best Couple Rider were won by Emmanuel Jojo Amora, Diana Marie Banaticla, and Wilson De Leon and Erdiza Barcelona (who also got engaged at the event), respectively. Dancing to the tune of the new Raider R150 jingle, Club Suzuki Raider Jr. Philippines won in Show Me the Moves.
The highly-coveted Club Awards went to the following: Raider Clubs Category – Biggest Delegation (Group) went to Raider Owners Club, Inc.; the one for Chapter went to Reborn 150 Philippines; the Farthest Delegation was awarded to Suzuki Raider R150 Pangasinan; and the Earliest Delegation went to the Raider 150 Alliance Owners Alliance Philippines. For Non-Raider Category, the Biggest Delegation (Group) went to the Skydrive Nation; Biggest Delegation for Chapter was awarded to the Smash 115 Club Philippines; and the Farthest Delegation went to Skydrive Nation Olongapo.
Games, raffles, and free service and bike wash were given as a treat to the riders. Suzuki trade partners—Gatorade, IRC Tire, Manila Tactical, MotoActive, MotoWorld, NGK Spark Plugs, NHK Helmets, PacSafe, Pepsi, Racing Boy, RK Racing Chain and Sprocket, Shield, Spyder, XSpeed, and Suzuki Genuine Parts (SGP)—offered great deals to the attendees at the trade show. Two lucky riders even took home the brand new Raider R150 during the grand raffle draw.
Team Suzuki Pilipinas showed off the power and performance of the Raider R150 as they were presented on stage to celebrate their historical achievements at the Suzuki Asian Challenge (SAC) 2016. The team had been giving the country back-to-back-back wins, including two-time championship titles in one of the rounds of the said race.
Making the event special was host Roxee B. Also in attendance was Kim Domingo who danced to the tune of the latest Raider R150 jingle and gave a song number which delighted the riders even more. Suzuki Philippines President Hiroshi Suzuki even gave his own special song and dance number to entertain the crowd.
Other notable guests include Suzuki executives Managing Director Norminio Mojica and Motorcycle Sales and Marketing General Manager Jun Bulot; Land Transportation Office Director for Law Enforcement Service Francis Rey Almora; and Chief of Traffic Safety Development Roberto Valera. They were joined by Suzuki’s partner dealers as well as representatives from the media.
