Suzuki launches new fuel-efficient Celerio

If you were ever stuck in EDSA these past few months, you may have noticed an enigmatic Suzuki billboard that simply said “Coming Soon” on a blue car’s front bumper. Suzuki’s characteristic product teasing culminates now with the release of its new hatchback, an upgraded Celerio into the Philippine market. It’s bigger so it’s definitely a looker among Suzuki’s lineup, known for its compact cars from the bite-sized Jimny to the reliable Swift.

The latest update to Suzuki’s hatchback sports what the company calls an “A+ compact build.” It enjoys both design and engine improvements. Firstly, the new Celerio is slightly longer, taller, and deeper than its predecessor. Its dimensions measure out to 3,600 x 1,600 x 1,540mm all around. That’s around a hundred millimeters increase in length and height. (The previous model measures 3,500mm in length and 1,470mm in height.) Its wheelbase is 2,425mm, also almost 100mm larger than before. It’s also a tad bit deeper with a ground clearance of 145mm.

These slight modifications enhance roominess and luggage space. All five passengers of the Suzuki Celerio enjoy wider legroom. Under the hatch, luggage of up to 254 liters can be stored, ensuring comfortable road trips in, around, and out of the Metro.

Under the hood, the new Suzuki Celerio has an improved 1.0-liter K10B three-cylinder DOHC 12V engine that chugs out 67hp @ 6,000rpm and 90Nm @ 3,500rpm. It’s a vehicle designed for fuel efficiency with a fuel tank capacity of 35 liters. It will come in two variants: in Continuously Variable Transmission or in 5-speed manual transmission.

More than a more spacious ride, the new Suzuki Celerio keeps the passengers’ safety in mind as well. It is equipped with electric power steering, electronic-controlled door and window locks, ABS-equipped brakes, dual airbags, a collapsible steering column, side impact beams, a high mount stop lamp, and a defogger. All these safety features are enhanced by Suzuki’s patented Total Effective Control Technology design. This means that the Celerio is engineered with shock-absorbing designs to protect its occupants from impacts. This protection also includes pedestrians the Suzuki accidentally bumps into. The front bumper is designed to absorb most of the impact.
