At the start of the year, we’ve already been hearing rumors of an upgraded PlayStation 4 being dubbed the “PS4.5.” Then more leaks including specs with bumped up CPU and GPU and the codename “Neo.”
However, days before their E3 press event, a Sony official confirmed the existence of the new console but added that it won’t make an appearance at E3. With that in mind, this year’s Sony E3 press conference was all about the games. While they showed multi-console games in their event, what was exciting to see are the PlayStation-exclusive games.
To everyone’s surprise, Sony announced a new God of War game which is simply called God of War. While the new game won’t have any sequel numbers, from the demo they showed, it shows a more mature Kratos with a full beard.
Days Gone looks like a biker story set in an apocalyptic zombie world where the main character is searching for his girlfriend.
Finally given a firm launch date of October 25th, The Last Guardian seems to be more than just vaporware. For those unfamiliar with the game, it appears to be a puzzle game in the vein of Ico.
The Horizon: Zero Dawn trailer expands on the brief trailer shown last year. This year, they’ve shown some gameplay which plays like an open world RPG.
Detroit: Become Human is another story driven game from Quantic Dream. The trailer shown is set in a Blade Runner-esque world. You control an android negotiator and based on your answers and actions, determine how the story plays out.
Death Stranding is a Hideo Kojima game starring Norman Reedus (Daryl from The Walking Dead). Aside from the short trailer featuring the naked star, no one really knows anything about the game.
Since, technically, Sony has the rights to the Spider-Man franchise, it’s no surprise that Sony also announced a new Spider-Man game. From the trailer, it looks like the new game will be based on the Spider-Man we saw from Captain America: Civil War.
While the Sony press event was all about the games, the electronics company did announce the launch date and final price of the PlayStation VR. The PlayStation VR will launch on October 13th for US$399 (approx. P18,500) in America. Sony is also boasting that the PlayStation VR will have 50 games available for it by the end of the year, which include Farpoint, Star Wars: Battlefront – X-Wing VR Mission, Batman – Arkham VR, and Final Fantasy XV – VR Experience, just to name a few.
Except for The Last Guardian, all the games introduced have no definite launch dates.
