In a notch-filled world, Samsung has managed to transition into being notch-less to having a punch-hole display. And it seems now the company is toying with the idea of putting a camera with optical zoom capabilities into its stylus. Samsung filed a patent back in February 2017, which was granted yesterday, that would let the stylus wirelessly send images back to the phone or tablet. It’s something Samsung can do since the Note9 already uses Bluetooth support for the S Pen stylus.
Plus, putting the built-in camera into a stylus offers some benefits. By taking the camera out of the phone, there is more room to experiment. So, you can do things like put in optical zoom. The patent itself mentions an “optical zooming function” specifically. It also gives you more flexibility when it comes to taking photos, having the phone act as your viewfinder while you move the stylus around to suit your needs.
We have to remind you that this is a patent, so there is no guarantee that we’d be seeing this technology anytime soon. But we’re holding out hope it might happen.
