Samsung outs new Gear S2 smartwatch

With Samsung’s seventh attempt in the smartwatch market, it steps away further from the Android universe. The new Gear S2 watches are Tizen-powered devices that come in three different versions: classic, standard, and 3G.

Looks-wise, the classic has a, well, classic look with its black case and black leather band. The standard version comes in either a dark gray case with matching rubber band or silver case with white rubber band. You can see them going after Apple with the multiple versions of the Gear S2.

The 3G model looks similar to the standard version but, as its name suggests, it’s a 3G-capable smartwatch. It doesn’t just rely on Wi-Fi to get you online.

Each version features an 11.4-millimeter thick watch with 1.2-inch diameter touch display (360 x 360 resolution). They run on a 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, and 4GB internal storage space. Samsung promises a two- to three-day battery life, which is a big boost from the daily charge most smartwatch users have to do. And you can charge it wirelessly. It comes with NFC and Bluetooth connectivity options as well. And as mentioned before, it runs on Tizen.

You can navigate the interface by rotating the bezel or use the dedicated Home and Back buttons. It’ll come with a new 24-hour fitness activity log, similar to the Apple Watch, and help you track your fitness goals. No word on pricing and availability yet but we should hear more about it from IFA 2015 in Berlin happening this week.
