Samsung has announced the sequel to last year’s flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S2. The new tablet comes in 9.7-inch and 8.0-inch variants. Last year’s 10.5-inch variant has been done away with. While they may be smaller, the new Galaxy Tab S2 devices will be thinner and lighter. Both variants will only be 5.6mm thick. The 9.7-inch variant will weigh only 389 grams, while the 8.0-inch variant will weight only 265 grams.

Even at its lithe figure, the Galaxy Tab S2 will sport Super AMOLED displays at 2048 x 1536 resolutions. Adaptive Display adjusts the screen to vividly reproduce colors according to the object being displayed. Reading Mode adjusts screen brightness to reduce eye strain in low light conditions.

It’s faster with an octacore combination of processors: a Quad 1.9GHz and a Quad 1.3GHz. Both variants will have 3GB worth of RAM and a selection of either 32GB or 64GB worth of internal storage. A microSD can also be added to expand memory up to 128GB.

It comes preinstalled with Android 5.0 Lollipop, Microsoft Office Solutions (with up to 100GB of free cloud storage for a free two years via OneDrive). The tablet also comes with a touch-enabled Fingerprint Scanner.

The shooters are 8MP rear and 2.1MP front. The 9.7-inch variant sports a 5,870mAh battery while the 8.0-inch variant sports a 4,000mAh battery.

The Galaxy Tab S2 is expected to be released sometime in August all around the world.
