Review: Redmi Note 10 Pro

Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 10 Pro with a couple of tricks up its sleeve that will definitely make it standout among its competitors. For starters, it features a sizable 6.67-inch display, a 5,020mAh battery capacity and a 108MP camera. All these features are available at a price that surprisingly doesn’t break the bank. Keep reading to find out more about this bargain of a smartphone.

Display and build

The first thing that draws your attention as you unbox the Redmi Note 10 Pro is its large 6.67-inch AMOLED DotDisplay with an impressive 20:9 aspect ratio that supports a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. The dual-speakers on the top and bottom of the smartphone work together with the immersive screen to give you a complete entertainment experience. It was also surprisingly loud enough to cover an average-sized room without affecting the sound quality.

The device comes in three classic and eye-catching colors: Glacier Blue, Gradient Bronze, and Onyx Gray (which is what we have in-hand). Whichever color you decide on, durability is guaranteed by its Corning Gorilla Glass 5 which will help protect the front of the phone from scratches and its IP53 splash-proof rating.

The device feels luxurious to the touch but its back is a smudge and dust magnet. Luckily, it came with a clear protective case to prevent this from becoming an issue. On the top of the phone it has an IR blaster, microphone, 3.5mm headphone jack, and the dual-speakers. On its right, it sports an Arc side fingerprint scanner to help quickly unlock the phone.

Tech Specs

The Redmi Note 10 Pro runs on MIUI 12 (based on Android 11) and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G. Coupled with the high 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate, the Note 10 is the ideal phone for gamers and streamers alike. This is due to the responsive and near-seamless experience when running intensive apps. Even more, the 5,020mAh battery and 33W fast-charging capability allow you to spend more time enjoying what you love and less time charging.

Prospective buyers have three versions to choose from when they purchase the phone: 6GB+64GB, 6GB+128GB and 8GB+128GB depending on one’s needs.

Photography and Video

The mid-range smartphone market has a new photography king. The Redmi Note 10 Pro’s camera is the highest resolution camera available for smartphones today, utilizing a 108 megapixel sensor and dual native ISO. Besides the 108MP wide-angle camera, a 8MP ultra-wide angle camera, 5MP telemacro camera and 2MP depth sensor complement it to give you photographic options for any scenario. The cameras also feature 9-in-1 binning technology and Night Mode 2.0 which captures clear low-light photographs powered by a RAW multi-frame algorithm.

In terms of video, pro and telemacro time-lapse video shooting enables you to become the director of your own life, while additional features such as ShootSteady, Pro Time-Lapse, Dual Video, and Long Exposure mode give you the ultimate creative freedom. I personally often use the Dual Video to capture both mine and my dog’s (or another subject) reactions during an event.

Verdict

  • PROS: impressive and detailed camera, IP53 splash rating, booming speakers and battery life, massive display with rapid refresh rate
  • CONS: not 5G, only supports 4G and WiFi 5, chipset/processor could’ve been upgraded but it wouldn’t be this inexpensive if that were the case

For the amount of higher-end features you can find on the Redmi Note 10 Pro, you’d be hard-pressed to find something similar in today’s smartphone market. If you’re looking to upgrade your mobile camera and overall smartphone experience (from gaming to browsing/streaming) I’d recommend this smartphone especially because of its attractively affordable price. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro is available now and retails at PHP 12,590 for the 6GB + 128GB and PHP 13,590 for the 8GB + 128GB.
