Review: realme 10 Pro 5G

realme recently launched one of the newest members of the number family – the realme 10 Pro 5G. It puts in centerstage what it can provide entertainment seekers, boasting 120Hz boundless display. It also impresses on paper as the device comes with a 108MP camera. However, how will it fare in real life scenarios? Can it really offer all-around reliability for typical users and stand out in a few departments? Find out in this review.

Design and build

It seems that realme finally got the memo and hopped on the boxy design trend. Additionally, it comes in a matte finish, giving you a smooth, velvety feel minus the fingerprint marks. However, I’d appreciate it if it had a lighter form since it’s a tad bulky at 190g.

We’re all familiar with the design language of the number series. If you’re a fan, you’ll be delighted to know realme 10 Pro 5G speaks the same language. Looking for something striking? You can choose between Nebula Blue or Hyperspace Gold colorway. And of course, there’s also the subtle and safe Dark Matter colorway.

Display

You’ll be greeted by the 6.72-inch FHD + LCD display. It almost feels like an immersive, borderless experience. Just keep your attention on slim bezels on top and the sides, then you might just forget the wideness of the chin. On the plus side, it has a much bigger screen-to-body ratio (93.76%) compared to its predecessor (90.8%).

Overall, the front panel is equipped to satisfy your hunger for consumption of video content. Screen visibility outdoors isn’t bad so you can watch wherever you are with ease. Colors may be on point, but they can still use a hint of vividness. Responsiveness is commendable with 120Hz refresh rate, especially when you’re infinitely scrolling through TikTok or Instagram.

Camera

Found at the rear is the dual camera setup: 108MP main camera and 2MP Portrait camera. But the former is what’s worth talking about. Shots taken by the main shooter in broad daylight were admirable. They showcase sharp details and vibrant colors. It can make any scenario look very much alive. The catch? Colors sometimes come off as too strong. With such intensity, some shots may slightly differ from what you see in real life.

Flipping the phone, you’ll see top and center is the 16MP front camera. You can easily take decent selfies that’s worth posting on your socials.

Performance

The realme 10 Pro 5G doesn’t fall short in what it offers under the hood. Powered by the Snapdragon 695 5G chipset, running several apps to multitask felt like a breeze. This is coupled with 8GB of RAM (with up to 8GB Dynamic RAM Expansion).

Even in gaming scenarios, it didn’t disappoint. At the default visual setting of Asphalt 9 and Mobile Legends, the overall experience was hitch-free. No lags or stutters.

Our unit for review is built with 128GB of storage, but launched locally has a much bigger 256GB. That’s generous enough to cater to your photo hoarding habits and app downloads.

Battery

Reliability is also one of its strong suits. With a 5000mAh battery, you can go on with your day without any worries. For the most part, it won’t be necessary to take a space-consuming powerbank with you.

Recharging halfway with the 33W SUPERVOOC Charge takes 29 minutes – true to what the brand claims.

Verdict

Even with the competition in the midrange segment becoming tougher than ever, realme takes it head on and doesn’t fall back. Its contender – the realme 10 Pro 5G – shines as it receives a stunning refreshed look, highly capable camera setup, and a large and immersive display. These highlights are complemented with well-rounded specs that give you more than your money’s worth. All-day battery reliability? Check. Smooth user experience? Check. Therefore, there’s no reason to feel guilty for spending PHP16,999 for this feature-packed device.
