Review: Razer Leviathan V2 X

I was searching for a cost-effective, high-quality audio system to enhance my gaming experience when I came across Razer’s Leviathan V2 X, which fits the bill in terms of pricing and features. Besides gaming, I’ve been using it for movies, music, and meetings – and I am very much impressed.

Razer’s Leviathan V2 X, the baby sibling of Leviathan V2, is the newest of the series. With its dimensions of 400mm x 71 mm x 77 mm, it would fit snugly under your monitor, saving you space on your desktop. The exterior of the soundbar is made of plastic and knocking on it elicits a sturdy feel. At the front of the speaker is a fabric grill flexing the Razer logo; it’s best to avoid having a drink nearby it to avoid stains and damaging the material. On top of it are the basic control buttons which I would talk about later. Under it are two solid rubber pegs and a customizable 14-zone RGB lighting to provide a subtle aesthetic to your setup. At the back is a USB Type-C port to connect to your PC, which is convenient since most gadgets nowadays use Type-C. Also, it doesn’t come with a power brick so it can mostly just be plugged in on your PC as it is intended to be used, but you can still use it if you have a power brick with a Type-C port.

The controls for the soundbar are simple; with a single push of a button, it powers up and is ready for use. It also has a source button if you want a quick switch to your headphones or other audio output; you can also set it up on Razer Synapse. It provides 5.0 Bluetooth connectivity so you can connect it to your other devices with ease. There are also volume buttons so you can adjust it without having to fiddle with your PC while gaming.

Inside the soundbar are two full-range drivers and two passive radiators to deliver powerful sound. It offers a max sound pressure level of 90dB. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with a subwoofer and THX Spatial Audio, unlike its expensive sibling, Leviathan V2, so it wouldn’t give you the same level of immersion. Still, you don’t have to worry about the V2 X to be lacking when it comes to giving you loud and accurate audio. The mid and high ranges are great, while the vocals and clarity are the most prominent sound you can hear. Since there is no dedicated subwoofer for the bass, you can hear it, but it might be lacking for some people who prefer a stronger and punchier bass. Overall, it still sounds good compared to other speakers of its range.

The Razer audio app lets you connect the speaker to your phone via Bluetooth, turn it on/off, control the volume, and other basic controls. It also provides a 10-band equalizer so you can tinker with the audio however you like or just choose from the presets given by Razer. You can also control the RGB lighting although the presets are limited and very subtle. The lighting is also audio reactive according to the audio level which can be toggled on or off depending on your preference. You can also change the input source in the app, whether it’s Bluetooth or USB. You can also put a timer for the soundbar to automatically shut off when it’s idle. It offers the same features on Razer Synapse for you to control on your PC.

The Razer Leviathan V2 X is definitely a good option to add to your battle station, elevating your entertainment experience. Its compact design gives you a clutter-free desktop and ample space to move around. With the customizable RGB lighting giving a faint glow on your desktop, I think it’s really a solid deal with the price of PHP5,995. I have been using it for gaming and working and it is an amazing experience so far. When watching movies there is no noticeable delay on the audio with USB or Bluetooth connection. There is no latency lag during gaming when you are using it via USB, but when using Bluetooth, you might notice a slight lag. I love how with just a push of a button I could switch the audio to my headphones when I need it. There is still room for improvement with materials used and the audio, but overall, I am very much pleased with the performance of Razer’s Leviathan V2 X.
