Review: Epson EcoTank Monochrome M1120

We’ve seen the mass adoption of hybrid work arrangements, which entails both employers and employees to make the necessary adjustments to maintain high levels of productivity. If you’re planning to revamp your workspace at home or in the office with highly productive tools, you’ll need something economic yet efficient.

Even in the digital age, one of the many things that remains prominent in most workspaces is a printer. Depending on your needs, there are several options to choose from. But before finalizing your purchase, it’s crucial to understand the environmental implications of our choices as well.

If your line of work often involves text-heavy print work, and you’re looking for something cost-effective with minimal environmental impact, Epson offers a wide range of options. One that should be on your radar is the Epson EcoTank Monochrome M1120 Wi-Fi Ink Tank Printer.

Design and build

Personally, I’m inclined to keep my space looking spic and span. It’s easier to visualize ourselves achieving maximum productivity without all the chaos, so minimalism is the way to go. That said, the M1120 is more than welcome on our desks as it features a compact and sleek design. It’s also relatively lightweight (3.5kg), which requires very minimal effort to transfer.

Inside the box

The printer comes with a CD, ink bottle, manual guide, warranty card, notice for Wi-Fi direct and for users regarding ENERGY STAR.

Performance

The printing process proved to be faster than expected. It emulates the speed of laser printers, making it a good option for high-volume printwork. In particular, Epson claims that the model has print speeds of 15ppm. As for its capacity, you load up to 150 sheets of A4. You can even feel guilt-free knowing that it consumes significantly less power — 14W — compared to laser printers.

Equally important, there’s the convenience of wireless connectivity (WiFi and WiFi Direct) However, it took me a while to configure, but once I did, it was smooth sailing from then on. You can even print directly from your iPhone or Android phone through the Epson iPrint app.

The spill-free ink bottle is heaven-sent. Gone are the days when we have to struggle just to refill the ink of our printers. On top of that, you get a high page yield of 6000 pages with just one ink bottle according to Epson.

Print quality

With inkjet printers we automatically think that it requires some amount of time to dry up. However in using the M1120 printer, the output remained smudge-free, yet very pigmented from the moment it came out. Additionally, the print quality is visibly sharp and clear thanks to its 1400×720 resolution. It’s apparent that the efforts to mimic the capabilities of a laser printer are leading slowly towards success.

Verdict

If your business involves large-scale printing jobs, the Epson M1120 is an efficient and sustainable choice to get the job done. From its ergonomic design down to its energy efficient performance and quality output. The best part is it performs like a laser printer with minimal environmental and wallet impact (PHP7,095). With increased awareness of our environmental responsibilities, it’s our job to take the strides in making more eco-conscious choices.
