Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have been pretty quiet about the release of its new augmented reality-based game they developed with Niantic Labs. But players in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and the U.S. have been reporting that they have access to the live version of Pokémon GO already.
The game uses AR to let you to collect, train, and battle Pokémon in the real world. It’s free-to-play with in-app purchase options. They’re also offering a Bluetooth accessory that’ll alert you of Pokémon in your area and let you capture them without bringing out your phone.
We’ve tried downloading the Android version but while the install button is there, it says it isn’t compatible with all my devices. The iOS version but the link redirects us to the App Store for Australian users. So it seems to be region locked at the moment.
There is an APK you can use to trick the app out of the region lock but we don’t recommend taking that path as Nintendo isn’t kind to cheaters and you wouldn’t want to be banned from using the game before it officially arrives. Now, we just have to keep refreshing and hope the game launches real soon here, too.
