PayMaya scores Anvil Awards for creating a safe, future-proofed workplace

Digital financial services leader PayMaya earned metals at the 57th Anvil Awards for its employee programs that are instrumental to building the safe workplace of the future.  

PayMaya utilized various digital tools and programs that enabled employees and management to open frank conversations about PayMaya’s growth and allowed for a safe shift to a hybrid virtual-physical work arrangement.  

“This recognition is a testament to the passion, resilience, and agility of our employees who are at the forefront of revolutionizing the way Filipinos access financial services amid the challenges posed by the pandemic,” said PayMaya Chief People Officer Carla Lanza. “Creating a safe, future-ready workplace is part of our effort to invest in our people’s health and wellbeing.”  

Driving PayMaya’s hyper-growth through employee engagements 

While experiencing hyper-growth across all its businesses last year, PayMaya sought to inspire and get employees excited to meet the exploding demand for digital financial services and to execute fast its thrust to go beyond payments in tandem with the Maya Bank.  

Thus, PayMaya came up with a multi-faceted internal communication campaign called “We are PayMaya and We Grow Beyond,” which utilized town halls as the hero initiative to sustain conversations between the management and employees.  

The “I Am PayMaya Town Halls” won a Silver Anvil for Public Relations Tools – Special Events. While traditional companies conventionally hold town halls on a bi-annual or annual basis, PayMaya held five employee-wide meetings for its general population. Complementing these townhalls were regular Leaders’ Huddles to cascade the latest business developments, corporate directions, and performance.

A key feature of “I Am PayMaya Town Halls” was the attendance of subject matter experts and motivational speakers such as Netflix Director of Encoding Technologies Anne Aaron and multi-awarded basketball coach Chot Reyes. They spoke on the value of mental fortitude when pushing through frenetic periods of high growth. 

As the need for faster collaboration also grew, PayMaya expanded its vaccination efforts to keep its employees safe and then planned a shift to hybrid work.  PayMaya also released its SAFEwork Playbook, an updated publication of its pandemic and work arrangement protocols, which also won a Silver Anvil for Publication Relations Tools – Handbooks.

Regarded as the “Oscars of Public Relations,” the Anvil Awards is locally organized by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP), the country’s premier organization for communication and PR professionals. 

PayMaya’s winning initiatives reflect the company’s people-first policy that has enabled it to retain and attract talents through data-driven recruitment, build real-time coaching and feedback via digital tools, and roll out various well-being and mental health initiatives.  

Recently, PayMaya also bagged the Best Talent Acquisition Team Award from LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network, at the 2021 LinkedIn Talent Awards Philippines.

Dividends from last year’s employee engagement initiatives are reflected in the company’s accelerated growth. PayMaya has led the charge in fostering digital payments adoption across consumer and enterprise segments for both online and on-ground.

As of end-September 2021, PayMaya provides more than 41 million Filipinos access to financial services through its consumer platforms, where customers can conveniently pay utility bills, cash in, and remit through over 380,000 digital touchpoints nationwide. Its Smart Padala by PayMaya network of over 60,000 partner agent touchpoints serves as last-mile digital financial hubs in communities, elevating the country’s unbanked and underserved on equal footing with banked Filipinos when it comes to digital services.
