Laying eyes on the new Oris Artelier is quite literally a visual journey back in time. But the revival of the Artelier dress watch line is far from being a mere reissue of a vintage piece; it is a contemporary and highly intentional embodiment of a classic and much-loved Oris styling language designed for and by the next generation of Swiss-made mechanical watch lovers.
The lead designer on the project was 24-year-old Lena Huwiler. Her vision was to realize a striking but universal watch design that would be enjoyed by her generation, as well as by anyone passionate about industrial design, ergonomics, aesthetics, and the enduring value of high-quality Swiss-made mechanical watches.
That vision is evident across the collection, never more so than in this entry-level model—a multifaceted piece that delivers the blend of style and versatility today’s watch lovers are looking for. Oris only makes mechanical watches, and so this is powered by an automatic (Oris 733 movement) with Holstein’s signature Red Rotor visible in all its glory through the watch’s transparent case back.
The new, fully redesigned collection includes this Artelier Date 38mm version. It carries all the hallmarks of the new line: a sleek and slim modern case; a simple, uncluttered dial design; and the option of a utilitarian new multipiece stainless steel bracelet design (even if the classic dark brown leather strap with butterfly clasp really brings out the vintage vibe of this eye-candy piece).
Its top glass is sapphire, domed on both sides, with an anti-reflective coating inside. The clean, minimalist dial—which comes in white, dark blue, or chocolate black—features Super-LumiNova applied on hands and indices and a date window at 6 o’clock. The caseback is stainless steel with a screwed see-through mineral glass. A stainless steel crown ensures water resistance of 3 bar. It has a 41-hour power reserve.
The Artelier is not just a new Oris watch; it is an inspired new timepiece that elegantly blends vintage style with modern versatility.
