Nokia launches 4 new smartphones, including a 5G model and a classic throwback

HMD Global through a global livestream today announced three new Nokia smartphones. First is a 5G number that was teased earlier as one of the stars of the upcoming Bond movie, No Time to Die, along with two budget friendly devices.

Alongside the four new devices and brand-new roaming service, the company also announced its expansion into Brazil this year. Also, to celebrate the phone partnership with the 25th Bond movie,  fans can now get their hands on an exclusive 007 branded special edition Kevlar Case for the Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2 for €19.99 (~P1,105).

Entering Into 5G

Nokia calls this one its ‘future-proof’ smartphone. The first in its 5G portfolio, the Nokia 8.3 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G that supports both standalone and non-standalone 5G combinations. It features a futuristic rear camera set-up, similar to the looks of Huawei’s Mate 30 series. The 64MP quad cameras are equipped with ZEISS optics. Up front, it sports a 24MP camera also by ZEISS.

Inspired by the company’s Finnish roots, the Nokia 8.3 5G comes in Polar Night—taking inspiration from the arctic sky. It comes in a 6 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM variant along with a 8 GB RAM + 128 GB RAM variant and retails at €599 (~P33,136) and €649 (~P35,902), respectively. Catch it in No Time to Die in November or take it with you as you watch the film as it’ll be available globally this summer.

 Classics with a twist

The Nokia 5.3 also comes with a 13MP quad-camera set-up set in a ring like the 8.3. Not 5G enabled, it’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset and a 4,000 mAh cell, which Nokia says can last up to two days. Taking design cues from its Nordic origins, the 5.3 flaunts a 2.5D glass front and a scratch-resistant composite back and comes in three shades: Cyan, Sand, and Charcoal. It comes with 4 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM and will be available this April at at €189 (~P10,455).

Next up is the entry-level Nokia 1.3. Coming in the same gorgeous shade as the 5.3, it runs on Android 10 (Go edition) OS and is Android 11 (Go edition) ready. It comes with a single 8MP rear shooter and a 5MP front shooter with AI features such as low-light AI image fusion technology. The 1 GB RAM + 16 GB ROM smartphone will be available this April at €85 (~P5,255).

This next one is a lovely throwback to the original Nokia 5310 Xpress Music. Like its predecessor, the new Nokia 5310 brings with it the classic dedicated music controls. Combined with powerful, dual front-facing speakers, it lets you jam to all your favourite tunes. The Nokia 5310 remixes classic design but pays homage to the iconic original. It comes in two color shades: Black/Red or White/Red and is available this month for €39 (~P2,157).

Global Data Roaming

Alongside the launch of the four smartphones, HMD Global also debuted its HMD Connect global data roaming service, enabling people around the world to benefit from a hassle-free data SIM when travelling and staying in full control of their data plans. Signing up via the app, fans will receive a SIM card to their home address and will have effortless control over their data plan. HMD Connect will launch in BETA through HMDConnect.com, bringing hassle-free, secure and affordable roaming across the world.

The HMD Connect global data roaming service currently works in over 120 countries across the globe, and, together with partner Greenwave Systems and local operators, HMD Global is working to expand the coverage to even more networks and countries in the future. The Starter Kit, which includes the SIM card with up to 1GB or roaming data, will start at €9.95 (~P550) with plan upgrades from €5 (~P276).
