The Lexus RX. This midsize luxury SUV is nothing less than the bestselling Lexus model in the world. And we had the golden opportunity to test drive not just this model, but the range-topping variant, no less — the RX 500h F Sport Performance.

The 2026 Lexus RX 500h arrives at a fascinating intersection in the midsize luxury SUV market: it combines Lexus’s venerable virtues of comfort and refinement with a powertrain that delivers stunning performance without sacrificing everyday usability. After spending almost a week with the car, this flagship RX proves to be one of the brand’s most compelling yet.

Style — luxury with an attitude

At a glance, the RX’s design is familiar but thoughtfully sharpened. Lexus has evolved the silhouette with stronger character lines, a more subtle yet still very distinctive spindle grille and huge 21-inch alloy wheels, giving the RX 500h an assertive presence without tipping into the overly bold or gimmicky. It’s a large vehicle, measuring almost five meters long at 4,890mm.

Inside the cabin, which features the brand‘s driver-centric Tazuna cockpit, you’ll witness Lexus’s commitment to high-grade materials and thoughtful ergonomics — plush leather surfaces, obsessively precise panel gaps and an overall sense of serenity that befits its premium price bracket.

The latest infotainment system features responsive graphics and clear menus that minimize distraction. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, with a 12.3-inch multi-info instrument panel, a 14-inch touchscreen, and a superb 21-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system for a truly immersive cabin experience

Hybrid power — the strong yet silent type

What sets the RX 500h apart from other RX variants is its performance-oriented hybrid powertrain. Underneath the hood sits a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors and a 6-speed automatic, producing a combined 371ps and 460 Nm of torque (from as low as 2,000 rpm)—figures that place it solidly in the performance SUV genre rather than the typical comfort- or economy-biased hybrid class.

In everyday driving, this translates to brisk acceleration and smooth power delivery—the latter a long-time Lexus trait, and the former a bold declaration of the Lexus Driving Signature. Lexus claims a 0-100 km/h sprint in the low six-second range, which is impressive for a luxury SUV of this size. The hybrid system delivers strong low-end torque via electric assist, making highway passing responsive and effortless. Traction on slippery surfaces or during hard cornering is confidence-inspiring, thanks to the RX 500h’s DIRECT4 all-wheel drive. There are four driving modes—Eco, Normal, Sport, Custom—plus EV and Trail modes.

Dynamic Rear Steering helps steer the rear wheels up to four degrees in the opposite or same direction as the front wheels, depending on vehicle speed. At low speeds, this feature vastly improves turning and maneuverability, while at high speeds, delivers superb stability and responsive handling.

Luxurious ride and refinement with sporty handling — a perfect balance

Despite its performance orientation, the RX 500h doesn’t abandon Lexus’s core strengths. The ride quality is composed and supple, absorbing road imperfections with minimal intrusion into the cabin, thanks to its advanced Adaptive Variable Suspension. Noise, vibration and harshness are well controlled, whether on rough roads or on the highway. Wind and tire noise are barely heard, even at high speed, thanks to generous sound insulation, clever aerodynamics, and the use of tires specially designed for this car — performance tires that are quiet are quite rare.

Steering and body control have been sharpened compared with previous RX generations. While the RX 500h won’t out-handle a compact sporty SUV, its more dynamic edge makes daily driving more engaging without compromising comfort — a balance that luxury buyers increasingly desire.

Class-leading practicality and safety

The RX 500h seats five comfortably, with generous headroom and legroom for both front and rear passengers, thanks mostly to its lengthy 2,850mm wheelbase and generous width of almost two meters (1,920mm). Cargo space is generous, offering multifunctional storage capacity for weekend gear or weekly errands (there is a kick sensor for the tailgate). Three or even four golf bags can fit in the cargo area.

The RX 500h F Sport Performance boasts Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, which automatically maintains a set distance between the vehicle and the car in front, as well as Advanced Park, an automated parking system that moves the vehicle in and out of a parking space safely. The Lexus Bladescan Adaptive High-Beam System intelligently broadens the range of illumination without blinding oncoming traffic

Numerous advanced driver-assist safety systems from the Lexus Safety Sense—including Pre-Collision System, Adaptive High Beam System, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Blind-Spot Monitoring and Automatic Emergency Braking—round out the package and reflect Lexus’s commitment to industry-leading safety.

The verdict

The PHP6,468,000 Lexus RX 500h is a landmark vehicle in the RX lineup, delivering a hybrid SUV that broadens the model’s appeal without losing sight of its luxury roots. It offers strong performance, thoughtful efficiency, and the luxury and comfort that Lexus buyers have come to expect—all wrapped in a package that feels more exciting and alive than ever before.

For those who want a luxurious SUV that offers high-spirited driving without sacrificing fuel economy, the RX 500h is simply hard to beat.
