If you’re looking for a reliable daily driver that can relieve you of the hassle of commuting without breaking the bank, you might want to check out the recently launched new version of Toyota’s most affordable model in their lineup, the Wigo.
That’s because Toyota, as part of the new normal, is redefining how new cars are introduced—with the same festive fanfare but in utmost safety in this health-conscious times.
The new Wigo was unveiled to the public via live streaming on Toyota Motor Philippines’ Facebook page last Monday, June 15. True to Toyota tradition, its first ever interactive online unveiling was marked with fun, games and prizes, not the least of which was the exclusive performance by popular OPM group, Ben&Ben.
It was a highly anticipated event—not just for the grand spectacle, but also for the new car that was to be unveiled. The value-packed new Wigo brightens up the mobility landscape with a stylish new look, courtesy of a completely new front fascia, as well as a whole suite of new features and upgrades.
The new Wigo comes at a time when the public faces limitations and challenges in public transportation complicated by increasing safety concerns. The new Wigo, whose prices start at P568,000, aims to address mobility needs during these times by offering a solid option for budget-conscious first-time car buyers and those looking for an extra car.
“The new Wigo remains an iconic car that offers the same familiar feeling of practicality and reliability, but made more advanced, more convenient, safer, and more fun with its sleek and sporty TRD Styling,” said TMP President Atsuhiro Okamoto in his welcome remarks.
The 2020 Wigo lineup is spearheaded by the exciting new TRD S grade, which features a sporty TRD body kit. The rest of the lineup introduces updates and more advanced features while still boasting the legendary reliability and quality of a Toyota — all while being fun to drive.
The midrange Wigo G gets upscale-looking machine-cut 14-inch alloy wheels (with 175/65R14 tires) and new clear-lens taillamps. The G and entry-level E grades also share a new and very sporty-looking front bumper characterized by a large blacked-out grille and distinctive blacked-out triangular foglight surrounds (for Wigo TRD S and Wigo G only).
On top of the snazzy new alloy wheels and taillamps, the TRD S sports a racier look with the TRD aero body kit, which includes a front spoiler, side skirts, a two-tone rear spoiler, a rear diffuser-type skirt, as well as TRD S badge and decals. The new Yellow SE color is exclusive to the TRD S.
The TRD kit also includes Apple CarPlay/Android Auto/Aux/USB/Bluetooth compatibility, Voice Command feature, and a class-leading Digital Video Recorder.
The spacious interior features redesigned seats for better support and more comfort and chrome accents for more elegance. The new Wigo also features a new touch-panel LCD aircon controls (for TRD S and G grade) for easy fingertip access.
The new Wigo TRD S and Wigo G now come with the push start button and steering wheel audio controls as well as power retract-and-adjust side mirrors. Parking is even easier and more beginner-friendly with the new back camera that comes standard. The Wigo G has a touchscreen audio system with Aux, USB and Bluetooth connectivity. All grades of Wigo come with power door locks and a new instrument panel design.
Safety features are never compromised with all Wigo grades coming with SRS airbags for the driver and front passenger, back sonar, and Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS).
Under the hood, the new Wigo carries over its 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine developing 66PS and 89Nm of torque. This highly fuel-efficient engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic.
