In Case You Missed Everything (ICYME): The return of Darth Vader, Rody’s entrance, GT Academy season 2

0

We’re starting a new weekly post called In Case You Missed Everything or ICYME to keep you abreast with latest and hottest news you might have missed from the past week. Starting us off, we find out that Darth Vader’s making a comeback, President Digong wants businessmen to shape up, and we only have two Game of Thrones seasons left.

  • The Sith Lord is back. You may or many not have heard this (you might be living under a rock if you haven’t) but Darth Vader is going to make a little appearance on the upcoming standalone Star Wars film: Rogue One. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed his appearance but says he will be used in the film “sparingly” but she adds, “At a key strategic moment, he’s going to loom large.” And, of course, James Earl Jones will be back to voice him.
  • Change starts with you. Ahead of President Rodrigo Duterte’s inauguration, he was speaking to Cebuano supporters at a thanksgiving event held at Cebu City’ s Plaza Sugbo. One of his key messages was telling businessmen to report extortion attempts instead of resorting to bribes to fast-track transactions with the government. We’re with you on that one, Mr. President.
  • Down to two. Well, it looks like there isn’t much time left to spend in the extremely massive, violent, yet exciting world of Game of Thrones. But the showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have confirmed that there will only be two seasons left with 13 episodes between them. We hear the collective sigh of disappointment from around the globe.
  • Tell your Android what to do. A new site called OK Google is giving you a quick tutorial on the many, many thing you can use Android’s voice assistant for. Did you know you can use OK Google to help you take a selfie? Or adjust the volume and brightness of your smartphone/tablet? Cool, huh?
  • Gamers, suit up! The Nissan GT Academy returns for its second season. The virtual-to-reality competition is set to take the country by storm until the end of August. It’s open to anyone! And the winners will get a chance to train to be an actual racing driver.
  • Safety first. If there’s something we can keep an eye on for car safety, it’s our tires. They’re the first things that hit the road and the first checks we should take before rolling out. To promote better road safety, Bridgestone has launched its “‘di pwede and pwede na ‘yan” campaign. The safety campaign will take free tire checks all across the road for motorists everywhere.
  • Bring on the kaiju. The sequel to 2013 mecha vs. kaiju blockbuster Pacific Rim has been announced. It’s slated for 2018. It’s also set to star The Force Awakens star John Boyega.
  • N is for nougat. And we have our Android N superstar! Google has announced that the N entry to its Android lineup will be named Nougat. They’ve also unveiled the latest “garden gnome” to grace their lawns in California.
