Our third IFA 2015 roundup comes from the Chinese company, Huawei. Coming from a brand silence these past few months, Huawei outs its new flagship, the Mate S, along with a more comprehensive announcement of its entry into the wearable market, the Huawei Watch.
The Force is Strong with the Mate S
Announced at this year’s IFA in Berlin Germany, Chinese phone maker Huawei introduced its latest flagship Android smartphone, the Mate S.
Specs-wise, the Mate S sports an octa-core processer from HiSense, the Kirin 930. It has 3GB of RAM and 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB of storage with microSD expandability. The display is a 5.5’, FullHD 1080p display.
The biggest feature of the Mate S is its pressure-sensitive technology in its display. This is similar to Apple’s “Force Touch” in its Apple Watch and the Macbook touchpad. The phone even comes with a scale app that is able to approximate the weight of an object that is placed on the display. The clincher is that the feature is only available in the 128GB model and will be released in select markets.
Huawei Watch in the Flesh
While the Huawei Watch was announced earlier at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Chinese company was finally ready to show the watch at this year’s IFA in Berlin. This is Huawei’s first attempt at making an Android watch while others are on their second generation.
Specs are in line with other Android watches. You get a Snapdragon 400 processor and 286ppi round display. The display is also protected by scratch-resistant sapphire glass.
The Huawei Watch will be available at around $350 to $800 depending on the case and strap you choose. Huawei offers stainless steel case, black stainless steel or rose gold stainless steel case. As for the straps, you have the option leather, steel mesh, or link bracelets.
