IFA 2016: HP goes modular

0

One of the most interesting new products shown off at IFA 2016 is the Elite Slice, a modular desktop PC from HP. At first glance, the Elite Slice looks like a conventional mini desktop PC with its sleek square design, but what makes it unique is its modular feature, wherein the modules can be stacked together to either add more functionality, or improve the performance of the Elite Slice. The modules connect via, what HP calls, the HP Slice Connector which can be found on the top and/or bottom of each module.

At launch, the company will be releasing a Bang & Olufsen audio module, an optical disk drive module, and what HP is calling the Collaboration Cover which converts the Elite Slice into a Skype for Business device. HP also plans to release other modules in the future including one that expands the Elite Slice’s storage and one that lets you wirelessly charge your smartphone.

The base model of the Elite Slice will feature up to a sixth-generation Intel Core i7 processor and Windows 10 Pro with prices starting at $899. It is equipped with two USB 3.1 Type-C ports, two USB 2.0 ports, a DisplayPort, an HDMI port, an Ethernet port, headphone/microphone jacks, and built-in dual microphones. The HP Elite Slice will be available sometime this month.
