Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. (HMPH) continues to make strides in pursuit of its commitment to empower communities and uplift the future of Filipinos through Hyundai Accelerate. Four (4) Pasigueño scholars have officially been admitted this trimester to an intensive 12-month Industrial Skills Training Program under Don Bosco Makati’s Technical-Vocational Education and Training curriculum. This makes the City of Pasig the brand’s second partner under its scholarship program, following the Department of Education Taguig and Pateros (DepEd TAPAT).

Mayor Vico welcomed HMPH to his home, the Pasig City Hall, and gave an inspiring message about their vision, as a local government unit, for the Filipino youth

A ceremony last August at the People’s Hall was held to sign off the terms of the agreement to be enacted. Present were HMPH executives, Mr. Dong Wook Lee, its President, Mr. Cecil Capacete, Managing Director, and Mr. Hong Shik Chin, Chief Finance Officer. Along with them were Honorable Pasig City Mayor Victor Ma. Regis “Vico” Sotto, Vice Mayor Robert Vincent Jude “Dodot” Jaworski Jr., Councilor Mark Gil “Volta” Delos Santos, Councilor Corazon “Cory” Raymundo, Officer-in-Charge for the Education Unit Atty. Kathleen Mae Villamin, and Executive Assistant for the Office of the Mayor, Atty Bernice Mendoza.

During the said event, Mr. Lee expressed his gratitude, “We thank the City Government of Pasig for allowing us to support as well as be one of the contributors of its Five-Point Agenda, specifically the “Education” pillar. Together, let us look after our youth – pave the way for their access to quality training and resources which will help lead them to becoming well-rounded employed individuals.”

Mayor Sotto, an advocate for education and youth empowerment, also shared his vision for Pasig, which has been lauded as a “model city” in the country, “One of the things we always discuss to level up the field of education here is the job skills matching. We need to really develop a framework for the multiple pathways that a child or a person can have towards a better career and a better life.”

He continued, “At the end of the day, the number one thing we are concerned about and we are trying to do is to equally give people a chance to a better chance and a better future. We’re very thankful for the partnership with Hyundai Motor Philippines because we see that this is precisely the way to go. Not just to give the students scholarships and extend help, but also to give them a guaranteed future.”

In partnership with the Don Bosco Technical Institute, Hyundai Accelerate was designed to transform lives and harness the untapped potential of young Filipinos. It aims to bridge the gap between education and employment by offering the selected students the opportunity to be taken in as a professional by a Hyundai dealership after their On-the-Job Training (OJT). Through Hyundai Accelerate, they will be provided with an immersive experience in automotive technology that will enable them to become leaders in car manufacturing, car shop servicing, and beyond.
