Huawei Y9 Prime Officially Launched in the Philippines

Consumers looking for a high-end specs for an entry level price will love Huawei’s newest product. Equipped with Huawei’s own high-performance, low-power-consumption Kirin 710F chipset, and an intelligent EMUI 9 operating system based on Android Pie, the Y9 Prime 2019 provides the latest innovative features such as triple AI cameras, a long battery life, high-end graphics, and aesthetic design.

Always photo-ready

The Huawei Y9 comes with a triple rear camera set up that pushes the boundaries of entry-level phones but the highlight of the phone is its auto pop-up front camera that is automatically activated as the user switches to front camera mode.  is also designed with an intelligent protection mechanism that retracts the lens when it detects the phone free falling. This design allows the phone to have a full-screen display—that is bezel-less and notch-less.

The Huawei Y9 Prime’s front 16MP front camera, is also supported by Artificial Intelligence (AI). The camera can identify blue skies, greenery, indoor scenes, and landscapes which automatically adjust its parameters to optimize the natural lighting conditions. The recently upgraded AI backlight imaging technology retains details with stunning clarity and natural colors to captivating selfies regardless of the lighting. 

At the rear, it has a 16MP + 8MP + 2MP triple camera system. The 16MP main camera and 8MP secondary camera utilize a 6P (six-lens plastic array) design, which helps capture crystal-clear images with a sterling level of the detail and powerful light intake, resulting in improved resolution and contrasts.

The F/1.8 aperture on the 16MP camera takes in more light and captures images with low noise. Meanwhile, the 8MP sensor offers one of the most impressive feats little found among the budget phones, an ultra-wide-angle camera that allows for 120° wide-angle shots of vast landscapes or breathtaking skylines.

On the other hand, the 2MP sensor coordinates with the primary camera to generate the depth of field in the photo, enabling SLR-quality images on a palm-sized budget handset. Tools such as Night mode, and 480 FPS super slow-motion videos, bring a range of professional features within reach.

More Screen, more fun  

The new Y9’s screen has no notch or hole in sight, instead it has a 6.59” glass surface, taking up 91% of the front surface. The receiver earpiece has been moved to the top of the central frame, and the ambient light sensor is located at the bottom of the screen. Its LCD screen displays 16.7 million color gradients and boasts a wide color gamut of 85%. The screen also filters harmful blue light emissions, and intelligently adjusts the color temperature and brightness, to protect against eye strain. Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 also passed TÜV Rheinland’s strict standards for low blue light and photo biological safety.

Spec-tacular 

The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 comes equipped with a 4GB RAM+128GROM, 4,000 mAh battery, and also a Type-C port that enjoys a faster transmission and greater convenience. Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 also retains the standard 3.5mm headset jack.

Powered by the 12nm Kirin 710F, it delivers lightning performance while consuming less power.  Design-wise, the back cover on the Y9 Prime 2019 is divided into three levels. The upper third houses the camera and fingerprint scanner. The bottom two-thirds are minimalistic, with a darker-hued backdrop set against the logo in the lower-left corner.

Despite sporting a 6.59-inch bezel-less screen, it has the grip and feel of a 5.5-inch phone. The back cover is composed of 3D composite material (3D PC/PMMA) that glimmers like glass but is durable and shatter-resistant.

Running on EMUI 9, Huawei’s self-developed OS, it houses 10% fewer Settings items and boasts a 12.9% higher performance from previous OS versions. EMUI 9.0 utilizes the upgraded version 2.0 Version of F2FS to provide memory management that works seamlessly with Huawei’s self-developed background app monitoring, optimizing power efficiency and phone security. 

Pricing and Availability

The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 retails at  P12,990 and comes with three colors: Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, and Emerald Green and will be available at Huawei Experience Stores and partner retailers nationwide. Pre-order starts on July 5-July 12 and consumers who pre-order will get a free Bluetooth speaker worth PHP 1,790.
