Huawei Watch GT 4: A smarter timepiece with a classic silhouette

Looks like Huawei is on a mission to redefine the meaning of a smartwatch. The Huawei Watch GT 4 is the living proof of that. How so? It has gone far beyond just providing users with stats to monitor their health and fitness levels.

This time around, it’s centered on being a fashion-forward timepiece with much more comprehensive smart and health features.

Design and build

Compared to its predecessor, the Huawei Watch GT 4 is significantly lighter and thinner. This is more obvious in my case since I went from testing out the ceramic edition to this featherlight edition. Yes, I’m talking about the latter with a sleek 41mm case size, 9.8mm width and white leather strap.

It’s far from bulky so it’s safe to assume a 24/7 comfortable fit no matter what scenario. Props to Huawei for nailing it in ergonomics.

Meanwhile, what Huawei retained is the same elegance in design, if not, even more. The gold accents add the luxurious touch. It beautifully emulates classic silhouettes without trying too hard. This results in a look that radiates a relaxed, sophisticated vibe, ultimately adding to its appeal.

Display

The wow-factor extends to its impressively large and vibrant 1.32-inch AMOLED screen. Evidently, there is a 13% increase in screen-to-body ratio. To adapt to all types of personality and style, there are 12 new designs, and a plethora of official and third-party watch faces to choose from. My top pick is the Stars watch face as it best represents my style — subtle yet sophisticated. You can also go for something bold and flamboyant; the options are limitless.

Smart features and compatibility

The Huawei Watch GT 4 meets a couple of new advancements. One of which includes the Enhanced Bluetooth Calling features that allows a 100m distance between your smartphone and watch.

Compatibility issues are a thing of the past when it comes to this latest iteration. All features can be taken advantage of across all operating systems (Android 6.0 and iOS 9.0 or later). So it’s not only timeless, but it’s also universal. Way to go, Huawei!

Health features

Isn’t it amazing when you can keep track of your health and fitness just by looking at your wrist? We’re often bombarded with workload and responsibilities so having someone or someTHING look out for you is very favorable. It lets you have peace of mind since it paints a clear picture of your overall health.

Huawei outdid itself by providing users an even more comprehensive set of tools to look after themselves. It made advancements in heart health monitoring with the introduction of Pulse Wave Arrhythmia Analysis. With this, you’ll have improved cardiac health management. Thus, if any potential issues come up, you can take action immediately.

The new feature previously mentioned works hand-in-hand with the TruSeen 5.5+ for a more accurate heart rate reading. Additionally, this feature can better read blood oxygen levels too.

A good night’s sleep can impact our productivity the next day, so it’s vital to get adequate hours and quality sleep. This is where Huawei TruSleep 3.0 sleep technology comes in.

As a woman, the menstrual cycle management feature is heaven-sent. Not only do we have to keep this in mind, but our partners have to do so as well. It calls for extra special treatment for the ladies during that time of the month.

For the sports and fitness enthusiasts, there are 200+ Huawei Free Fitness Courses and 100+ diverse sports modes to choose from.

Battery

Perhaps one of the most important things is the longevity of a smartwatch. Having a smartwatch is fun, but not so much when your enjoyment is cut short because of its short-lived battery. This is a major pain point addressed by Huawei as the Huawei Watch GT 4 41mm receives a 7-day battery life. While this might not be the longest one on the market, my arms are open wide for anything that lasts for more than a day.

Final thoughts

Picture this: a seamless blend of classic and contemporary. If they’re able to achieve this, the results would be immaculate. And I believe Huawei is on the right track. The Huawei Watch GT 4 stands confident and beautiful. You get to enjoy such elegance in a package that won’t hurt your wallet: prices start at PHP12,999.
