Huawei P40 series launched, pre-order + price + quick specs

Today, in a global live stream event, Huawei officially launched the much-awaited P40 series. After stunning everyone with its partnership with Leica on the P30 series (here’s our review of the P30 Pro) and subsequently on the Mate 30 series, it’s bringing a new flagship to its portfolio. Launched alongside it are new color tones for the Watch GT 2, the new GT 2e, revamped smart glasses, and Sound X speaker.

The P40 series is being hailed as having one of the most advanced camera set-ups on a smartphone. There’s also a P40 Pro+ added to the lineup with a penta rear camera setup while the P40 holds a triple rear camera and the P40 Pro with a quad rear camera setup.

It sports the same sensors as the Mate 30 Pro like the ultra wide cine camera and Huawei’s new ultra vision RYB sensor, which it claims to give produce larger pixels and more vivid shots. And following on the heels of the recently launched S20 ultra, the series also sports a 100x zoom. It’s not afraid to compare camera prowess with the S20 ultra or the iPhone 11 Pro, posing side by sides of low light photos and videos, zoom detail, and more.

All three phones in the series come equipped with a 50MP Ultra Vision Wide main camera and a color temperature sensor.

The P40 sports 3x optical telephoto lens and 16 MP ultrawide lens. The P40 Pro, on the other hand, comes with 5x telephoto lens, ultra wide cine lens, and a time of flight sensor. The P40 Pro+ is the most amped up of them all, featuring a 10x and 3x telephoto lens, ultra wide cine lens, time of flight lens.

Up front, they all have a 32 MP selfie camera with the Pro and Pro+ coming with additional sensors like a IR depth sensor and ambient sensor. Both the Pro and Pro+ also have their front cameras set in a punch hole on a 6.58” OLED display while the P40 still has the usual notch on a smaller 6.1” OLED display.

Inside, the P40 series is powered by the Kirin 990 5G—the same one as the Mate 30 Pro 5G. Batter life is staggered at 3,800 mAh for the P40 while the P40 Pro and Pro+ both get larger 4,200 mAh cells. The Pro and Pro+ also have a 40W wired and wireless supercharge while the P40 gets half the charging power with no wireless charging capabilities.

It comes in five color variants—ice white, deep sea blue, silver frost, and blush gold—for the P40 and P40 Pro, while the P40 Pro+ comes with two more exclusive shades: ceramic black and ceramic white.

Only the P40 and P40 Pro will be coming to the Philippines though, and it will be available for pre-order online today until April 24th. It’ll retail at P36,990 for the P40 (8 GB+ 128 GB) and P50,990 (8GB + 256GB) for the P40 Pro.
