GOOGLE’S NEW EMAIL SERVICE ‘INBOX’

Google has always been about organized convenience. From their customizable Gmail archiving, the Google Now that just knows what you want, and the Material Design of Android Lollipop, Google wants you to feel free from algorithms and how things work. Making the convenience feel organic has been the key.

Today, Google released a new email service beside its widely popular Gmail – Google Inbox. To be clear, Google Inbox is not Gmail. It is not a revamped version of Gmail or something totally separate.

“Years in the making, Inbox is by the same people who brought you Gmail, but it’s not Gmail: it’s a completely different type of inbox, designed to focus on what really matters,” Google states on Gmail’s official blog.

Inbox offers automatic organization by using Bundles. Inbox will group together similar emails that can be reviews at a glance and cast aside with a swipe. Bundles can also be customized according to your preferences.

Inbox will also highlight the information from an email. Rather than opening an email completely, the service will provide snippets from every email from the overall view so you’ll know what you need to know at a glance. Moreover, additional useful information will be displayed apart from what is already on the email.

Like what most Google apps like Google Now and Google Keep can do, Inbox has its own Reminders feature to help you keep track of what’s important. It will also allow you to Snooze these reminders and set them to remind you again at another time. It will also Assist you by providing useful information that you might need to get the job done like the phone number of a restaurant that you have to call in two days.

Google Inbox is not available for the general public yet. It has been released on an invite-only basis. Google has released the initial batch of invites to select Gmail users. These users will also be able to invite their friends. You can also email inbox@google.com to get an invitation as soon as possible. We’ve requested for an invite and we’re excited to tell you how the new Google Inbox feels like. Stay tuned for that review!
