Design and build
vivo is on a roll when it comes to the design of their smartphones this year. Soothing to the eyes with an artistic touch, the design of vivo Y22s in Summer Cyan features smooth wavy lines, resembling feathers, in pastel hues. Possibly not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the subtleness makes it easily likeable.
Despite falling under the cheaper spectrum, it has a high-end facade; the matte finish and camera module compound this. The Y22s is also available in Starlit Blue with a glitter finish for those who want to keep it simple. Notably, it’s the heaviest among its Y siblings, weighing 192g and measuring 8.38mm.

Display
Up front is the 6.55-inch Halo FullView LCD Display with 90Hz refresh rate. Brightness and color accuracy are the things the front panel excelled in. It may not have the best contrast ratio, but the viewing experience was still a pleasurable one.
Camera
You can see the 50MP SuperNight main camera works its magic as it significantly brightens images in dark scenarios, making details more visible with less noise. It’s not as crisp, but I’d still take it given its affordability. Generally, images exhibit rich colors, which is a major upside.

The 8MP selfie camera showcased the details of my face with sufficient levels of sharpness in good lighting. Meanwhile, selfies taken at night weren’t bad either with the help of the softlight band. Noise has been reduced, but it lacked the vibrance that shots taken in favorable lighting possessed.
Battery
Not all might have the patience to wait for two hours and 10 minutes to fully charge the Y22s with the 18W charger, at least it has 5000mAh battery capacity that can last you a little over a day with light to moderate usage.
Performance
The Y22s exceeded my expectations when it comes to gaming. I didn’t experience any stutters when I tried Mobile Legends. I believe the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor and 16GB Dynamic RAM are both at play here. While nothing is really special about the former, it’s still an acceptable offer for its price point. The same is true for the latter, which made running multiple apps a seamless, lag-free experience.
Built with an adequate 128GB storage, you won’t feel the need to hold back in terms of downloading apps and storing lots of photos and videos anytime soon. But even then, it’s expandable up to 1TB, so you can remain carefree.
Verdict
Everything considered, the vivo Y22s is rich in features that’ll help us maximize its use from day until night — from its strong night photography capabilities and generous storage and RAM to its large battery and competent processor. It’s a fine addition to the Y series family that’ll give consumers an attainable feature-rich smartphone.
