Full review: OPPO Reno6 Z 5G

Even if most of our time is spent in the comfort of our homes, we shouldn’t miss out on capturing precious moments. With the OPPO Reno6 Z 5G, the brand’s latest release, the highlight is on its camera that incorporates innovative portrait features. With it, you might just find the perfect companion to capture every emotion in every occasion. Taking off the spotlight from its camera features, what else does this smartphone have to offer? Read more to find out.

Design and Build

The OPPO Reno6 Z 5G exhibits the Reno Glow effect and comes in two colorways: Aurora and Stellar Black. Inspired by the Northern Lights, the one currently in review is in the striking Aurora colorway—ever-changing when viewed in different angles. Because of the textured design of the rear of the phone, not only does it offer an amazing feel, but it’s also fingerprint-proof. Now we can forget about constantly wiping our phones clean and just gaze at its shiny, shimmering, splendid design.

I, for one, love to stream my favorite series on Netflix even while using my phone. This way, I can do it wherever I go, enjoying portability and handiness. If you share the same sentiment, this smartphone will give you maximum entertainment with its 6.4” AMOLED screen display and FHD+ resolution. I was impressed with its vibrant colors and crisp details.

Its lightweight (173g) and slim (7.97mm) body add to the amazing feel factor—gripping the phone feels comfortable. This is something I personally find valuable, yet underrated.

On the right side of the phone, you can locate the power button; while on the left sits the volume rocker and Dual SIM card tray. At the bottom are the 3.5mm jack, Type-C USB port, and speakers.

Included inside the box are earphones, protective case, Type-C USB data cable, charger, SIM ejector tool, quick start guide, and warranty card.

Camera

The rear comprises the 64MP triple-camera, with its portrait features as its highlight. First, I was impressed with its Bokeh Flare Portrait that produced dramatic, high-quality images. Its Portrait Beautification Video feature makes you picture perfect anytime, so you can take video content throughout the entire day without looking worn out. Further, you can control the level of beautification to make it more subtle and natural.

You can take advantage of various shooting modes with the 8MP wide angle camera and 2MP macro camera. Finally, there’s also dual-view video that allows you to capture with both the front and rear cameras to create a more interactive video content, wherein you can narrate or describe what you’re seeing or experiencing.

Meanwhile, up front houses the 32MP front camera. I was very pleased with the quality of the photos that it captured. Although I prefer to keep the level of beautification low for a more natural look—a little goes a long way, too much might look unnatural. The transition was smooth for the blur effect of the background from the subject.

Performance

Powered by Octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 800U 5G SoC, you can expect it to perform and deliver for your everyday use. To add to that, it has 8GB RAM and 128GB storage; the former can be expanded through OPPO’s RAM Expansion technology; this is something gamers can take delight in given the expected smooth gaming experience it will provide. Those who like to run several apps all at once will benefit from this as well. Not to mention, its 5G capability will give the additional boost for faster and uninterrupted mobile data usage.

The device sports a 4310mAh battery life. You can enjoy long hours doing what you love—  streaming movies, playing games, shooting videos or pictures, and the like. As for charging the Reno6 Z 5G, it only comes with a 30W VOOC Flash Charge 4.0 which, in my experience, gives you 68% battery life in 30 minutes. This could’ve been faster with their 65W SuperVOOC Flash Charge which sadly only comes with OPPO’s FindX Series.

As for its security features, it has an in-display fingerprint scanner at the bottom of the screen and facial recognition. Both of which can be easily set up and unlocks your phone instantly.

Here are the results after running the device through 3D Mark and Geekbench:

  • Slingshot: 4078
  • Slingshot Extreme- OpenGL ES 3.1: 3187
  • Wild Life: 1602
  • Wild Life Stress Test: 1614
  • Geekbench Score: 590 (Single-Core Score), 1758 (Multi-Core Score)

Verdict

The OPPO Reno6 Z 5G offers compelling features inside out that one can’t refuse. You get an immersive AMOLED screen display, superior camera features producing beautiful, high quality images, and a stylish phone design, all at an accessible price point of PHP 19,999 PHP. If these are the things you keep an eye out for a phone, then you can expect the Reno6 Z 5G to deliver.
