First impressions: nubia Neo 2 5G

The mobile gaming landscape continues to grow especially here in the Philippines. It is no surprise that smartphone brands keep developing and releasing products that target these Filipino gamers.

And yet, very few of them actually look the part. Upon first glance, you can definitely tell that the nubia Neo 2 5G is a smartphone built for mobile gaming.

What’s in the box?

Before I discuss the contents, the box itself is worth mentioning. The smartphone is packaged in a bright yellow box with a design that matches that of the device. It might be a little too much for others. But personally, I don’t mind a little eccentricity.

The nubia Neo 2 5G comes with a quick start guide, a sim card ejector pin, a charging brick and a USB Type C charging cable. A plastic phone case is included as well, which is a nice touch.

Design and build

Eye-catching is an understatement when describing the nubia Neo 2 5G. The Bionic Mecha Design brings so much character to the smartphone. The Hero Eye 3D texture adds a layer of the depth to the design as well.

The only downside is that the backcover is a fingerprint magnet. Other than that, I think the smartphone’s design looks both intimidating and futuristic, in the best way possible.

In terms of its dimensions, the nubia Neo 2 5G weighs around 208g. Its thickness clocks in at about 8.5mm. The slight heft does make the smartphone feel more durable.

On each edge of the lock button, you can find the Dual Gaming Shoulder Triggers. This would be incredibly helpful while playing FPS titles such as Call of Duty Mobile to help emulate that controller feel.

Display

The nubia Neo 2 5G is equipped with a 6.72-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Upon initial testing, I was pleased with how responsive and smooth the screen is, which is a huge plus.

Camera

The main camera system features a 50MP shooter. The Raw Super Night Mode promises clear and sharp night shots which is something to be tested further. On the other side, it features a 16MP front camera.

Under the hood

The nubia Neo 2 5G is powered by a Unisoc T820. It also runs on up to 20GB Dynamic RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

With mobile gaming the focus, this smartphone promises to deliver a smooth gaming experience. I will definitely be testing several different titles to see how it performs.

Battery and charging

The nubia Neo 2 5G draws its power from a 6,000mAh battery. It is also accompanied by 33W fast-wired charging.

We’ll see if this battery can keep up with heavy gaming sessions. Fast charging is also vital so that us gamers can avoid that FOMO when playing with friends.

Final thoughts

On paper, the nubia Neo 2 5G definitely seems like a gaming smartphone to consider. Will it be able to perform and keep up with my extended gaming sessions? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for our in-depth review of the nubia Neo 2 5G.
