In an unfortunate turn of events, electric car startup Faraday Future doesn’t have its chief battery architect as the company prepares to make its official debut at the Consumer Electronics Show 2016. The company, which is backed by Chinese Internet billionaire Jia Yueting, is set to unveil its concept car at CES in Las Vegas.
Porter Harris left the company this month, according to his LinkedIn page. He now lists Lotus Research and Development LLC as his current employer. He was the one who designed the battery packs for Faraday Future.
Harris was hired from Space Exploration Technologies, or SpaceX, for short; which you may or may not know is the rocket company led by Tesla Motor’s Elon Musk. He was with Faraday for 15 months.
This might cause a bit of trouble for the automaker as they’ve just signed an agreement to build a US$1 billion factory north of Las Vegas to manufacture its vehicles. They join other Chinese-backed startups who are looking to the US for its automotive technology and experience to sell cars in China, where the government is already taking measures to prevent air pollution.
