Facebook takes on podcasts with Live Audio

Facebook has just been working on its Live Video feature this year. As 2016 closes, the social network is taking on another aspect of the live broadcasting space: podcasts and radio. Facebook introduces Live Audio, which would work well for things such as book reading and interviews. Facebook also points out this will work for low-connectivity areas to broadcast data-efficient media. So, for example, if signal gets low, hosts can switch to audio to continue the stream seamlessly. The feature will also continue to have Live service viewer interaction included.

Right now Facebook launched with BBC World Service, book publisher Harper Collins, talk radio broadcaster Leading Britain’s Conversation, and authors Adam Grant and Britt Bennett. If you listen on Android, you’ll be able to use other apps while the audio streams in the background. For iOS, you need to keep the Facebook app open.
