Facebook is doing everything these days. And with the launch of Facebook Live last year, it’s venturing deeper into content creation, or at the very least broadcasting. Its next target? E-sports.
Rumor has it that Facebook plans to delve deeper into the world of professional gaming. They have already partnered with Activision Blizzard to have the developer share daily content on Facebook Live. And they are supposedly still holding talks with the social media giant to bring more e-sport competitions to its platform.
The bigger story, though, is that Facebook is reportedly holding “extensive talks” with Super Evil Megacorp (the team behind mobile e-sport game Vainglory). Facebook is trying to get them to stream their professional matches on Facebook. But according to Kristian Segerstrale, chief operating officer of Super Evil Megacorp, this deal isn’t set in stone just yet.
With Facebook trying to be everything for everyone, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Facebook might be trying to make it big in the e-sports world. This deal, if it does push through, would also put them up against the likes of YouTube and Twitch.
