Porsche’s worldwide deliveries in the first three months of the year increased by 36% compared to the first quarter of 2020, or 71,986 sports cars, SUVs and sedans sold this year against 53,125 vehicles delivered during the same period last year. Equally impressive is that the Taycan—Porsche’s first all-electric model which in 2020 saw its first full year in the market—nearly equaled the sales performance of Porsche’s iconic 911 sports car.
Porsche in the first quarter of the year sold 9,072 Taycan models, almost matching the 9,133-unit sales total achieved by the 911.
“We will sell significantly more Taycan cars this year. In the first quarter, deliveries of our successful all-electric model were already almost half of the total for all of 2020. A particularly pleasing fact here is that around 50% of the buyers are new customers. The Taycan is therefore increasing the size of our fan base,” said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board at Porsche AG.
Porsche’s SUV models continue to be the company’s volume driver worldwide. The Macan was most in demand among customers with 22,458 units delivered in the first quarter. Following it is the Cayenne, which saw 19,533 models sold during the same period.
Combined sales of the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman mid-engine sports cars reached 6,190 units while Porsche handed over 5,600 Panamera sport sedans to customers.
Porsche achieved double-digit growth in all sales regions, with deliveries in Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Middle East reaching 32,129 units, representing a 46% growth. China accounted for the bulk of these markets’ total with 21,991 vehicles sold, a 56% increase compared to the same period last year.
Porsche sales in American markets also significantly rose with 20,468 vehicles delivered, a 43% increase. In Europe, the figure was 19,389, 16% more than that recorded in the same three-month stretch in 2020.
