Digital music sales are down and music streaming is up. Following the streaming trend made popular by Spotify and last.fm, YouTube might launch a similar service to supplement their video hosting site. Google’s music subscription service has long been rumored, but few, if any, details have ever been confirmed, until now.
YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki smoothly evades inquiries about this project, while still confirming the public’s suspicions. In a Recode mobile conference, the CEO confirms that the YouTube team is “working on it.” There has been no confirmation on when this service will be launched, only that it will be launched “soon.” The service is rumored to include access to events and concerts via YouTube.
