City staycations for the holidays

Holidays signal travels and trips with family and friends. But sometimes, the terrible Manila traffic deters us from packing our bags and figuring out the best activities and itineraries. You don’t have to move far to get that exotic holiday you dream of, though. Believe it or not, there are a lot of places in Manila where you can enjoy city staycations for the holidays. Here are some of our picks, in no particular order:
Amelie Hotel Manila is a boutique hotel that opened in 2015. Located in artsy Malate in Manila, the hotel features art deco style that recalls the charm of decades past. Standard hotel amenities such as a pool and a gym provide creature comforts. Amelie Hotel is a short walk (five minutes tops!) away from Manila Bay where you can revel in the Manila sunset, malls, cafes, and other fun areas to explore. It is also near Rizal Park, Intramuros, and museums if you want a short history refresher. And in case you’re wondering who Amelie is, she’s the owner’s granddaughter.

Henry Hotel Manila is the go-to place for those seeking IG photo sessions seasoned with some mid-century charm. It has an old-fashioned feel that’s evident in the hotel’s classic looks. Modern amenities lend familiarity and comfort. The hotel has its own art gallery which complements the artsy vibe that the vintage hotel brings. Completing the relaxing stay is the hotel’s green spaces, which brings to mind nature. Henry Hotel is also close to arts hubs such as Metropolitan Museum and Galleria Duemila. It is also close to SM Mall of Asia, the premier shopping center in the area.

La Casita Mercedes is a pre-war colonial home turned bed and breakfast. The vintage vibe remains in this former private residence in 1939 through its furniture and art. It can be hard to believe that you are actually in Manila in the year 2018 because of the classic interiors. It is located at the trendy Poblacion neighborhood in Makati and is walking distance to some of Makati’s shopping centers such as A Venue, Century City Mall, and Rockwell Center.

Solaire Resort and Casino is, as the name implies, a resort casino which opened in 2013. It provides entertainment for both the casino curious and high rollers, who can choose to play baccarat, roulette, and table games. Solaire is also home to luxury shops that spell elegance and class. Moreover, because this resort casino is overlooking Manila Bay, it can be a great date place when you want to catch the sunset over dinner, or it can also be perfect for a wholesome family activity when you want to enjoy Manila’s blue skies. Pool-side chilling can be enjoyed while relaxing in Solaire’s pool. The massive property has gorgeous, picture-worthy spots. It is also near SM Mall of Asia, which you could get to through the resort casino’s free shuttle service.
