Can't book a ride? Grab cites LTFRB's regulations for supply crisis

According to Grab, only four out of 10 passengers can get a ride in a day. This further decreases during rainy days and Fridays with only two out of 10 passengers who get a ride.
In light of these recent events, the TNVS company reasoned in their official statement that LTFRB has set limits to the number of Grab drivers on the road.
“The LTFRB limits the the supply of TNVS vehicles to a 65,000 cap. In Metro Manila, only 55,000 vehicles are allowed to service passengers,” shared Grab.
However, only 35,000 drivers are available to service over 600,000 bookings every day. This is because there are inactive drivers on the list that according to Grab are those that “cannot be replaced.”

Inactive drivers are those work part-time as such, those affected by coding and other daily needs, and those naturally drop-out of the system over time, for various reasons.
“If the inactive drivers are replaced, the drivers can come in and service more than 150,000 rides daily (average of 12 rides per day),” said Grab.
With this, the company submitted a proposal to LTFRB to increase the limit of cars to at least 80,500, as consideration to the app’s users. However, LTFRB was said to not have taken any action yet.
“The LTFRB must review, clean up, and increase the supply cap of the masterlist.”
