Apple unveils the M2 Pro and M2 Max in Macbook Pro and Mac Mini

The second generation of Apple’s in-house processors were unveiled at last year’s Worldwide Developers Conference and flaunts an 18% better performance than the M1. It was showcased inside the refreshed Macbook Air, 13-inch Macbook Pro, and later on in the iPad Pro.

Today, in a direct-to-website announcement, Apple has unveiled the new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. The two new processors are showcased in the new 16-inch and 14-inch Macbook Pro, as well as an option for the new Mac Mini.

M2 Pro and M2 Max

The new M2 Pro and M2 Max have more cores in its CPU and GPU segment resulting in 40 percent better performance across the board compared to the previous iteration. There’s also more headroom in intensive tasks as the M2 Pro is available up to 32GB of unified memory, while the M2 Max can have up to 96GB of unified memory. Of course, these numbers won’t mean a thing if not put in a new device.

Mac Mini M2

The entry point to the Mac system finally receives an update. The new Mac Mini is now cheaper, starting at P36,990, and already comes with 256GB of SSD storage and an 8C/10C M2 processor with 8GB of unified memory.

What’s new this time around is you can spec the Mac Mini to be a beast like the Mac Studio. You can opt to have the standard M2 Pro chip or the higher level with 12-core CPU and 19-core GPU. There’s also an option for 32GB unified memory and bump up the SSD storage up to 8TB for only an additional P144,000.

14” and 16” Macbook Pro

Apple’s signature laptops received a huge performance bump thanks to the second generation Pro and Max processors. Both the M2 Pro and M1 Max deliver 20% better CPU and 30% better graphics performance over their M1 counterparts. You can throw anything at it and it won’t stutter in its delivery whether it’s Photoshop, DaVinci Resolve, XCode, and even 8K video rendering.

The two laptops also received upgrades in other areas. They now have WiFi 6E, new HDMI that supports up to 8K resolution, and battery life is pushed further up to 22 hours according to Apple.

The 14-inch Macbook Pro with M2 Pro processor starts at P126,990 while the 16-inch begins at P156,990.
