Apple launches global replacement program for USB-C charging cable of MacBook Retina

Apple is faulting a “design issue” for the USB-C charging cable of 12-inch MacBooks with Retina display sold through June 2015. The faulty cable might affect your ability to charge your MacBook. That’s why they’ve launched a worldwide replacement program for it.

Those problem cables have the label that reads “Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China.” The redesigned cables have the same label but will include a serial number. The replacement program doesn’t just cover those that ship with the MacBook but also faulty cables that were sold as standalone accessories.

Customers won’t be charged for the redesigned cable. If you bought your MacBook online or registered it online with Apple with a valid mailing address, they’ll automatically be sending the cable to you. Other eligible MacBook owners can get in touch with Apple Support, look for an Authorized Service Provider, or visit an Apple retail store to get the cables replaced. You can get your cable replaced until June 8, 2018.
