Apple launches the M3 Macbook Air that now supports dual displays but…

Apple was early this time in launching the updated MacBook Air. Both 13 and 15-inch models are now fitted with the M3 processor that’s rated to deliver up to 60% faster performance than the 2020 M1 model. It has faster Wi-Fi and can now support two external displays – all while retaining its 18-hour battery life.

The M3 processor was launched late last year and was first seen on the MacBook Pro and iMac. It has 25 billion transistors built using a 3nm process making it more efficient than the previous generation. It has an 8-core CPU, up to 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, and up to 24GB of unified memory.

The updates to this year’s MacBook Airs were expectedly minimal since they just launched the 15-inch version last year. What’s surprising is they are now including game tests in the Mac Air saying that the M3 MacBook Air can run ‘No Man’s Sky’ 60% faster than the M1 Mac Air; a testament to the processor’s capability.

Other updates include Wi-Fi 6E which is twice as fast than the previous generation, and dual external display support – IF the MacBook Air is closed. Yes, in order to make it work with two external monitors, you’ll have to invest in another keyboard and mouse (or trackpad) since it will require you to close this M3 MacBook Air. It’s a silly solution for a feature that was last seen in the 2018-2020 versions of the Intel-based Mac Air. Back then, you can have a total of three displays – two external, and one from the laptop – resulting in a very engaging workstation.

Apart from these three components (processor, Wi-Fi, display support), nothing else has changed with this year’s MacBook Air. It still has MagSafe 3 charging, 2 Thunderbolt/USB4 ports, Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, Force Touch trackpad, 1080p Facetime camera, and 13.6-inch or 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display.

The M3 MacBook Air will be available in Midnight, Starlight, Space Gray, and Silver colors. Prices will start at PHP 69,990 for the 13-inch model with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, while the 15-inch model at the same configuration begins at PHP 89,990. Check with your preferred authorized Apple dealer for local availability.
