Allianz, City of San Juan Unveil plans for country’s first solar-powered bike pit stop

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, together with new partners from Allianz PNB Life, have unveiled the design of the country’s first solar-powered bike pit stop that will be constructed in the San Juan City Hall Complex along Pinaglabanan St.

Aside from being solar-powered, the pit stop will also feature a bike parking area, a bikers’ resting area, and a small footprint bike repair station complete with hanger arms, repair tools, and air pump. The design of the bike pit stop was patterned after the Allianz race car pit stops during Formula 1 races.  In addition, safety bollards for bikers will be installed on major thoroughfares across the city, providing safe lanes for bikers to travel.

“We are thankful for the support of Allianz. It only shows that when we lead the way, we can build private sector confidence in government and support will naturally follow. We have been unyielding and consistent in our bike safety campaign. We hope to encourage more people to use their bikes as a means for traveling by ensuring their safety,” said Mayor Zamora.

Allianz PNB Life and San Juan have launched their respective biking initiatives—the former through its Ride Safe Movement campaign and the latter through its Bike Safety project—and will work together in providing biking safety solutions to the city.

Allianz is the exclusive Life Insurance Partner of San Juan City’s Bike Safety project. In line with this initiative, San Juan had earlier launched bike lanes along Ortigas Avenue, N. Domingo Street, and Pinaglabanan St., and is looking to put up more. Apart from the bike lanes, it has also deployed bike patrollers to ensure the safety of bikers and that the city’s strict quarantine protocols are observed.

“As an advocate of sustainability and road safety, Allianz joins the City of San Juan in promoting biking as a viable and eco-friendly solution to the current mobility problem. We are honored to work with one of most progressive and sustainable cities in Metro Manila and become the exclusive Life Insurance Partner of its Bike Safety project,” said Allianz PNB Life President and CEO Alexander Grenz.

Apart from its partnership with San Juan, Allianz is looking to bring its Ride Safe Movement campaign to more areas across the country.

“We commend the city government of San Juan for coming up with their biking initiative, and we hope that more cities can follow suit,” Grenz said.

Allianz, which has topped the Dow Jones Sustainability Index since 2017, making it the world’s most sustainable insurer, has launched several environmental initiatives in the past.

Last year, it joined the Lucio Tan Group of Companies’ Green Canopy reforestation project. Allianz has likewise sponsored the operation of E-jeepneys in 2019 that plied the Makati-Mandaluyong route. With its latest initiative with San Juan, Allianz furthers its sustainability efforts in the Philippines.
