Alden Ehrenreich cast as Han Solo in titular movie

Han Solo’s seat is no longer empty again. After Harrison Ford’s heart-wrenching departure from the franchise (if you didn’t know that by now, where have you been?), we now have a replacement for his character’s title card. Walt Disney and Lucasfilm have announced that Hail Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich has been cast as Han Solo for the titular character’s spin-off movie. The actor edges out other actors who were reportedly in consideration for the film, including Emory Cohen, Blake Jenner, Logan Lerman, and Jack Reynor.

Comprehensive details of the movie’s development have been so far kept under wraps. All we currently know of the plot is that we’ll be seeing a younger (and brasher) Han Solo as we first saw him way back in A New Hope.

The screenplay will be written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan. We’re also set to see Chewbacca as a featured character. Solo’s movie is set to join the Star Wars‘s expanding universe which will feature more spin-offs including a Boba Fett movie and this year’s Rogue One movie, which has completed its principal photography recently.
