A first drive of the 2021 Toyota Innova

Toyota has just revealed the face-lifted 2021 Innova, the perennial, universally loved, family-friendly MPV. Presenting a refreshed exterior and upgraded safety features, the Innova is set to strengthen its appeal to families and MPV users alike. With 6 different variants, there’s no doubt there will be an Innova to suit any need. Fortunately for us, we were given not just a sneak peek but an actual first drive of the new model to get a firsthand experience of what it truly has to offer.

Being multipurpose and multifaceted is at the forefront of the Innova. Fully understanding that this type of vehicle will most likely undergo significant wear and tear, Toyota has made sure that it can withstand such things from how the vehicle is created, both inside and out.

Moreover, Toyota has not only made the Innova family-oriented with its various features, but performance-oriented as well thanks to its 2.8L diesel engine. Included are two different drive modes, Eco and Power, to suit whichever situation and/or need—whether going for fuel optimization on city drives or an amplified performance when out and about. It also comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential control, so you can smoothly switch gears while maintaining control of the car’s capabilities.

The most obvious change in the new Innova is in its appearance, specifically at the front. Its LED headlamps and LED front fog lamps are essentially the same from the last. It sports a revised grille, a new front bumper that’s more elevated and new turn signal lamps, resulting in a more imposing and aggressive look. At the back, there are rear combination lamps with black outline and a tailgate garnish as well. The new Innova comes in refreshing colors: White Pearl Crystal Shine, Super White, Silver Metallic, Blackish Red Mica, Alumina Jade Metallic, Red Mica Metallic and Black.

I was quite impressed with the interior as it embodies a very homey feel, which is great for a vehicle meant to transport you and those closest to you. Its ambient lighting gives off a relaxing vibe, while it has multiple other features to make you feel at home, as accessibility and comfortability are both of utmost priority in any MPV. From foldable seat back tables with cupholders (V and G grades only) to one-touch tumble second-row seats to transform the passenger cabin into a makeshift living room, you can count on the Innova to create a great family-friendly environment.

Another big plus in terms of features is that it comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is something that can be of great assistance and convenience while driving. The Innova also has Smart Entry for a hands-free, keyless experience when entering the car.

Keeping in mind that the Innova will most often be transporting families, Toyota didn’t scrimp on safety. The car is sprinkled with a generous amount of safety features, such as Anti-Lock Brake System that monitors the speed of each wheel to detect and prevent locking, Vehicle Stability Control to prevent side skids and to stabilize the vehicle on sharp turns, Hill Start Assist, Reverse Camera, 7 SRS airbags (V grade only), as well as clearance & back sonar (V and G grades only) to detect any potential obstructions when maneuvering.

If the previous Innovas didn’t already give off the impression as a perfect family MPV, then there is absolutely no doubt that the new-look version does. With a refreshened look and boasting multiple features for everyone to enjoy, the new Innova is the ideal family companion wherever you go.
