Test: Scosche BoomBottle+

A speaker has a simple job: to play music. It’s a straightforward task but you’d be surprised at how many speakers somehow miss the mark. Of course, some speakers hit that mark on point. When a speaker has that objective down, one has to ask what else the speaker can do.

Primarily a car accessories brand, Scosche also carries the BoomBottle+, a speaker that can do so much more than just play music. It does its job plus more. Listing down all the things you can do with the BoomBottle+ takes more than just simple enumeration. Let’s break it down.

• Rigid and functional construction. The BoomBottle+ is no lightweight. Its design exudes a premium feel that accentuates its ruggedness. The BoomBottle+ is covered by smooth, matte rubber that feels amazing to the touch. On two sides, the rubber is disrupted by a functional textured grip. Beside these grips, the BoomBottle+ has a three-button panel (which includes a power button and a volume rocker) and an I/O ports panel protected by an airtight cover. Peeking from holes in the rubber is a durable metal skeleton that looks resistant to denting no matter how much it’s hit.

• Everything proof. The BoomBottle+ is IP67-certified which includes dust and water proofing. With its kind of construction, the BoomBottle+ looks to be resistant to everything. Its only Achilles heel will likely be its I/O panel protected by a removable airtight cover. Otherwise, bringing this anywhere should be a worry-free experience.

• Sound everywhere you go. Its circular design and double speaker system ensures 360-degree music coverage. Music coverage is supplemented by its two equalizer modes—Indoor and a more bombastic Outdoor. Indoor mode is loud by itself and can easily cover a big room. Outdoor mode is just explosive, like turning your speakers up to 11.

• Balanced sound. To say that the BoomBottle+ does its job is an understatement. But to say nothing on how it does its job is an unacceptable omission. The BoomBottle+ delivers a balanced sound that’s vibrant and punchy, perfect for the party. It has the potential for a little more oomph, but what you get is more than enough for its P8,350 price tag.

• It’s got the power. Both speakers are each powered by a 3,100mAh battery, combining for a total of 6,200mAh. This dual battery powers out around 15 hours of nonstop playtime. With that much power, the BoomBottle+ can also act as a power bank through a USB port on its panel.

• Additional input options. Besides its primary method of Bluetooth connectivity, the speaker is also compatible with AUX input. Plus, with another BoomBottle+, you can also have a wireless L-R stereo audio system.

• More portability options. The circular construction fits snuggly on car and bicycle cup holders. Its top side features a speaker grill cover, which acts as both protection for its subwoofer and a hook for carabiners (one is included in the box). For the inclined, the BoomBottle+ also has a 0.25-inch slot for tripods, monopods, and other mountable stands. The BoomBottle+ is easily transportable in any form of transportation. It does carry a bit of heft, though. Weighing in at 1.5lbs, its weight may add a bit of difficulty in terms of portability.

• Affordable price for amazing speakers. With so many functionalities and added frills, its P8,350 price tag is a bargain. Doubling this price for the added L-R functionality may sound like a luxury, though.

VERDICT

The Scosche BoomBottle+ is more than a speaker. Even after performing superbly as a speaker, the BoomBottle+ carries additional functionalities that make its sound accessible and portable for any outdoor (and even indoor) use.
