Unboxing the vivo Y31: First impressions

vivo is set to release an addition to their entry-level Y Series this February 5: the Y31. If there’s anything to look forward to, it’ll be its 48 megapixel rear camera, its 1080P FHD+ display, and its 6GB RAM +128GB ROM memory. But before we go into the nitty gritty of the phone’s performance, let’s find out what’s inside the actual box the phone comes in.

Within the box of the vivo Y31 you’ll find the phone itself already equipped with a screen protector, a SIM ejector, a Type-C charger, an 18W power adapter, a wired headset, a clear protective case for its exterior, and documentation (warranty, quick user guide).

In terms of the design of the phone, I like the Ocean Blue (which is the model we have in hand) but it reminds me of a similar design of the OPPO Reno 4 released last August 2020 because of its similar light blue-white/silver color and fade.

The Halo FullView Display takes full advantage of the Y31’s 6.58inch size with FHD+ (2408×1080) resolution and P3 color gamut. Additionally, the display automatically filters out harmful blue light to reduce eye strain. On the side of the phone is vivo’s Side Fingerprint Sensor/Power Button, allowing you to turn on the display and unlock the phone simultaneously in as quick as 0.3 seconds.

The battery of the vivo Y31 is a 5,000mAh super capacity, which is becoming a standard now in most phones. Coupled with the aforementioned Type-C charger and power adapter, the phone is capable of 18W Quick Charging allowing you to recharge to 70% in 64 minutes.

Inside the Y31 you’ll find its Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor. In combination with the 6GB RAM +128GB ROM memory, this 6-series CPU is excellent for downloads and multitasking with several apps without much lag. On top of all of this, the three-card slot design allows you to increase the memory of the phone by up to 1TB. This means you can have an almost limitless amount of photos, videos, and apps without worrying about making room for more.

The Y31’s 48MP rear camera contains three separate lenses. When coupled with the phone’s photo processing algorithms, it is capable of producing stunning and super-clear shots in both daytime and night. The second of these cameras besides the primary lens is the 2MP Bokeh camera, which allows you to take fantastic portraits with an impressive low depth-of-field effect. The Super Macro Camera meanwhile does the opposite, and instead focuses on and zooms into the details of your photographic subject as close as 4cm. In terms of photography modes, Super Night Mode and Super Night utilize Selfie Softlight Band (adjusts to ambient lighting) and a multi-frame noise-reducing algorithm to really make sure your photos come out crystal clear in dimly lit conditions.

These are only a few things to know about the vivo Y31 so make sure to stay tuned to know more on our full review!
