Unboxing the Huawei MateBook 14

Huawei finally announces the availability of the Huawei MateBook 14 in the Philippines. This laptop features the series’ signature sleek design and smart features in a robust and lightweight enclosure. Portability comes at no expense to performance and feature set, as the latest notebook can be configured with a 14-inch 2K Huawei FullView Display, the new 7nm AMD Ryzen 4000 H-Series mobile processors, 16GB RAM and more, all working together with Huawei-designed solutions such as Huawei Share to enable consumers to do more across all usage scenarios.

Design and build

The Huawei MateBook 14 comes in Space Gray that sort of gives a hint of blue when hit by light, and it features the brand’s logo on the center. Included with the laptop is a pocket-sized 65W USB-C AC adapter that weighs just 160g, which can also SuperCharge your smartphone or tablet. The Matebook itself feels light but substantial, weighing only 1.49kg.

Close by to the keyboard is a Fingerprint Power Button for security and efficiency, an embedded Huawei Share tag on the touchpad, two USB-A ports, a USB-C port, a HDMI port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There are two 2W speakers that deliver good audio quality for whatever you need sound for. In addition, audio correction is included with the Matebook to make sounds clearer and more authentic.

Display

The new MateBook features Huawei’s 14-inch signature FullView Display that supports 2K resolution and multi-touch (touchscreen). Contrasting nicely with this display is a thin black bezel border as there is a 90% screen-to-body ratio. The MateBook also has a black keyboard that features a recessed camera that is a neat privacy feature. Simply press the button that activates the camera and it will prop up, and fold back flush when not in use.

Processor

Under the hood of the Huawei MateBook 14 is an AMD Ryzen™ 4000 H-Series processor that has eight cores. It also sports an integrated AMD Radeon graphics which can support some types of gaming along with content creator apps. There is also an optional performance mode that can be activated by pressing “Fn+P”. This mode gives the laptop more power for handling intensive tasks like image editing software or coding. In addition, interested owners can upgrade the Matebook’s memory and storage up to 16GB DDR4 RAM and 512GB SSD storage.
